Press Statement
As expressed by Secretary Tillerson in calls to his Turkish and Russian counterparts yesterday, the United States is very concerned about the situation in northwest Syria, especially the plight of innocent civilians who are now faced with an escalation in fighting. We continue to be supportive of addressing the legitimate security concerns of Turkey as a NATO Ally and critical partner in the effort to defeat ISIS. However, we urge Turkey to exercise restraint and ensure that its military operations remain limited in scope and duration and scrupulous to avoid civilian casualties. We call on all parties to remain focused on the central goal of defeating ISIS. Now is the time for great nations to work together to secure a peaceful stability for the people of Syria.
Nothing appeases Erdogan. But looks like Egypt and Russia are both presenting much stronger responses.
Get the US out of there! What a screwed up mess with no possible benefit to US involvement.
I dont think its on the right page. Hes saying be careful with your invasion so that you minimize civilian casualties. It would be far better to condemn Turkeys unprovoked invasion of a neighboring country.
I cannot say what I want to say. But agree.
Egypt: Turkish attack on Afrin is unacceptable

Also states Russia’s response.
Not only is Turkey loosing the battle, in spite of random terrorist bombing of civilians. But he is invoking the anger of the wrong people.
I think Russia is about to pull the plug on this. They control the air space for Efrin.
I personally dont give stinkers damned what Edegon does. Why would we care?
I think and wish that there was some way to help those Kurds. They have assisted us in many ways.
I am not smart enough to know how to deal with Turkey, but I do know that if Erdogen is left to his own devices, will be in the horrible situations that North Korea and Iran are presenting. This nut thinks he is the new Mohammad or something.
This will works itself out.
I understand the US reluctance of breaking with Turkey. That is an issue past Erdogan. But Turkey with Erdogan is totally incompatible with NATO membership. PERIOD.
I just read a Reuters article that made it sound like Turkey is winning in a walk. All reports I get they have lost every attempt at entry into Syria on the ground.
They bombed civilians and fuel tanks, early reports showed a helicopter on fire and going down. Many report of Turk tanks destroyed and captured.
Erdogan is loosing this in all measures. It may take him out. Which would be just reward for his inhuman cruelty for power.
This is the test run for Turkey’s next Genocide. It must end here and now.
Stopping the Iranians is one benefit. Iran is on a march to the Med - they are following their historic routes of conquest. Once they take Syria, with with or without Russian partnership, they will move on to Israel and up into Greece and thence into Europe proper.
Stopping Turkey’s march to the next caliphate is another, as well as keeping Turkey from allying with Russia.
Sorry for the late reply, but I was certainly happy to see your post.
So the fake news just keeps going on and on. I hope you are right. Many people aren’t paying attention to Turkey like, oh, it’s a Nato country after all! I remember thinking when they were allowed in...what a mistake.
If they are getting spanked as you say they are, I feel much better.
Thanks, Tex
I’ve seen no official report that they are being punished. But news reports indicate this is drawing a strong reaction.
I did receive a message from a friend of mine who works for US Government communications facility that there were many casualties and deaths in Efrin itself. That is a town of 400,000 people.
I think if the Russians were not in charge of policing the airspace we would have shown a presence and stopped it.
It is a great crime. This is Turkey. I also think Assad is partially to blame. They offered the people of Efrin protection if they accepted the government of Assad. They refused, I think they gave the green light to Erdogan. Now they are denying that.
From the link:
“Turkey had previously said it would conduct air strikes, but apparently held off after Syrian authorities threatened to shoot the planes down.”
This is false. Turkey DID bring 2 days of air strikes.
There were high civilian casualties in Efrin. And in smaller towns. Total numbers are not clear.
Turkey is invading Efrin Syria. The YPG are not the PKK. Both are Kurds. The PKK has aided the YPG military, training and supplies. These people were fighting to survive ISIS.
Nothing Turkey says is ever true. This is the prelude to another genocide if the world allows them. It must end.
The Reuters article referenced in the article you sent link for must have been from Turkey. Nothing but Propaganda is ever emitted from Turkey.
I read that Reuters article yesterday and it is a total fabrication. No truth in it.
Original content not from Reuters. I highly doubt you read any of the link from the War Zone - a highly respected mil analysis site by competent people.
The article was written before the arty strike, so what?
The Reuters article is pure Turk propaganda. Nothing in it is the truth. Saw it yesterday and shook my head.
If Reuters has a representative in Turkey, this is all they will put out. If he tried to go past what he is told to say. They will put him in jail.
Turkey is an Islamist dictatorship now.
“I highly doubt you read any of the link from the War Zone”
I read it all.
If you read it, then you know it is not a Reuters article. So what’s your problem?
