I ran a big intel computer network hub (which was on the Defense Data Network (DDN), the forebear of the MILNET and then Internet) at the Pentagon in the early 1980s.
I typed in a lot of play-by-play to the remote corners of the world every NFL Sunday and especially during the bowls and playoffs. I even came in on my days off from time to time just to do this. It was like posting the Sunday Talk show thread!
When I was in Australia even earlier, we didnt have Internet yet, but compadres in other locations always transmitted scores back to us in the Comm Center. Wed print them on the teletype and post them on the ops center wall.
