WASHINGTON - The world’s most powerful government shut down on Saturday after President Donald Trump and the U.S. Congress failed to reach a deal on funding for federal agencies, highlighting America’s deep political divisions.
For the first time since October 2013 - when a similar standoff that lasted 16 days kept only essential agency operations intact - federal workers were being told to stay at home or in some cases to work without pay until new funding is approved.
The shutdown began a year to the day after Trump was sworn in as president.
His inability to cut a deal despite having a Republican majority in both houses of Congress marks arguably the most debilitating setback for his crisis-plagued administration.
In a Twitter post early on Saturday, Trump blamed Democrat lawmakers.
“Democrats are far more concerned with illegal immigrants than they are with our great military or safety at our dangerous southern border,” he said. “They could have easily made a deal but decided to play shutdown politics instead.”

Shutdown isn’t about budget and isn’t about DACA. Democrat party is in crisis over apparent criminal activity during the last election. The gang mentality is meant to divert attention from Obama and Hillary...they’re willing to fall on their sword but ALL of them are going down.
Reuters, AP, and NBC are all spinning to blame it on Trump for refusing to ‘negotiate’.
Of course, Reuters blames Trump.

Does anyone know why McConnell wasn’t on the floor to vote last night? I had the TV on mute while I read until midnight and I have no idea why he hadn’t made an appearance. Not that it would have done any good anyway but where was he? I couldn’t believe the separate pretty large huddles on the floor - some had 5-6 senators and others looked to be 12-15 huddled. Must have been some pretty good gossip going around!
Thank goodness, it was touch and go, but the Smithsonian was able to keep the oh so essential panda cam on... so far.

No. I think Trump’s response will be the equivalent of laying down pillows so the 2-year-old doesn’t get hurt while throwing a tantrum because it isn’t allowed to make the dog look better with shoe polish.

Notice that it’s Trump feuding with the Democrats, not vice versa. That would imply that the Democrats are at least partly at fault too, and we can’t have that.

The Bolshies have overreached. They have tried to make Hispanics think they care at the risk alienating Blacks, who, tend to be what have you done lately for me group. To this end the Bolshekrats would do better promising to give back to Mexico, Texas, and California.

Is the shutdown due to Trump? He does not vote in the U.S. Senate. Isn’t the shutdown actually a Senate-caused action, and not an action it was up to Trump to prevent, as the GOP and Dim SENATORS could not come to an agreement THEY could pass? Am I wrong? (I NEVER watch or listen to cable or broadcast network news.)
Most people are going to ask why we are shutting the govt down over a bunch of illegals. The Dems have walked into a Trump trap.
