Tom Petty's Autopsy: Singer Died From Massive Accidental Drug Overdose

Tom Petty's autopsy results are in, and they show the singer died from an accidental drug overdose as a result of taking a variety of medications.

The L.A. County Coroner says a number of Tom's organs failed due to "mixed drug toxicity."

Tom's autopsy report shows the singer was on several pain meds, including Fentanyl patches, oxycodone (Oxycontin), temazepam (Restoril), alprazolam (Xanax), citalopram (Celexa), acetyl fentanyl and despropionyl fentanyl. The reason doctors prescribed the meds was because of a number of medical problems, including emphysema, knee problems and a fractured hip.

The family says the linchpin to Tom's demise was the fractured hip. He insisted on touring for 53 concert dates with the condition, which worsened over time and caused him to take the meds. On the date he had the heart attack he was told his hip had graduated to a full-on break that made the pain unbearable and may have caused the overuse of meds.

The autopsy says Petty suffered from coronary artery atherosclerosis.

As we reported ... Tom's official death certificate left his cause of death as "deferred," leaving it as a mystery until now.

We broke the story ... Tom went into full cardiac arrest before being taken to a hospital in L.A. He eventually died when his family took him off life support.

Fentanyl was also linked to the deaths of Prince and Lil Peep.

Tom was 66.

Folks who diss God by lowercasing the term are not only guilty of lese majeste towards God and inviting judgment, they are also begging the very question. A ‘god’ is a more or less manipulable entity. God is omni-everything. God sees where you can’t see. God goes where you can’t go.

And the judgment doesn’t come because of, er, petty pique on God’s part. It comes because one, being shortsighted, isn’t ready to play along with all those omni’s.

“Had he ever thought of writing rock songs while taking it easy?”

Harry Nilson did a pretty good job of it.

I could guess that he had visited multiple physicians. That’s harder to do today, but with concierge medicine still possible.

And it’s easy enough for a physician to throw a pill at a problem, rather than saying hey, wait, you’re pushing yourself to death and until you stop doing that, the pill is only going to blind you to that until it’s too late.

Now once he’s taking it easy, then fine. But he’s likely to need far fewer pills at that point.

In re the Puritan work ethic they were quite steadfast about keeping a Sunday Sanbath. That’s one day in seven, strict rest.

Xanax isn’t pain medication. It’s an anti-anxiety drug.

“Xanax is the key’’. Damn right. She’s a bewitching bitch she is. Almost took me out some years ago. You couldn’t care less if Godzilla were marching up the street. Far as “Aunt Xanni’’ concerned life’s cool.

....

Interesting coincidence. Most people would have checked themselves into the hospital.

Xanax is the key. You put Xanax into that heavy op mix, that’s the one that tells the brain: “Hey even though you’re not breathing, it’s cool.”

...

Xanax and pain killers are what caused Tiger Woods to have that strange traffic mishap a few months back. I remember reading then that the combination can be deadly.

A friend on my high school football team told me that 50 years ago - that pain is subjective - and that has helped me throughout my life.
And I have gone through a lot of pain like a trooper.

I have heard that he was in chronic pain from an accident. When he did a show here he would have to be driven to the stage on a golf cart, then get onstage and perform and then get driven back. He did have a drug problem in the past which makes one wonder why his Doc would write scripts for massive amounts of pain meds?

That’s the way opioids work; you need more and more to get the same pain relief. However, the list includes benzodiazepines [temazepam (Restoril), alprazolam (Xanax] possibly for anxiety, sleep, muscle relaxation, etc and an anti-depressant, citalopram (Celexa). Looks like an addict, possibly with underlying chronic pain as the initiating factor.

Nope. Just looking at the reported list of drugs as a discriminating healthcare professional would for a new patient. There are laws and professions that are required to follow them.

No need for name calling FRiend.

“(There is no freeway running through reseda anywhere)”

Well, the Ventura Fwy (101)is running thru the south part of Reseda. I think that’s is what he meant.

But it’s not. It only runs through Tarzana. Still, there are some houses in the north Tarzana area that seem to have the freeway close to their back yards, so that must be what he is talking about. :)

Well it looks like I’m wrong. Oops.

It does not even border the 101.

One should never utter Lil Peep in the same breath as Tom Petty or Prince!
