A black law professor argues that African Americans should embrace the notion that being black in America is a disability as a new legal strategy toward enacting protections for the black community against unconscious bias, stereotyping and structural inequality.
Kimani Paul-Emile, an associate professor of law at Fordham University and associate director of its law schools Center on Race, Law & Justice, argues that while Africans Americans might initially spurn the blackness as disability label, it can actually be a wise courtroom plan.
The Americans with Disabilities Act defines disability as a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities of such individual.
Blackness, of course, is not, by itself, an impairment, Paul-Emile writes.
Paul-Emile listed many reasons for black peoples perceived disabilities, including facing increased likelihood, relative to Whites, of living in poverty, attending failing schools, experiencing discrimination in housing, being denied a job interview, being stopped by the police, being killed during a routine police encounter, receiving inferior medical care, living in substandard conditions and in dangerous and/or polluted environments, being un- or underemployed, receiving longer prison sentences, and having a lower life expectancy.

Does she want even more money and entitlements? Nothing is ever enough, is it?
Race based, illegal based and sexuality based entitlements have to go.
but professor, blackness is a disability they way you and some of your cohorts wear it...
she should go teach at an all black college...fudging figures is what a lot of them do...she’ll fit right in...
Let her stroll around the Bronx in the evenings spreading her, ah, message and see how long that lasts.
She’ll learn what an impairment is and who dishes them out.
Well, being a black professor seems to suggest a mental disability.
You can’t be a Professor if you’re black?
Just read a different opinion by Mason Weaver. I will stick with Mr. Weaver on this.

The whole affirmative action nonsense, which sees blacks basically demand the cradle-to-grave welfare provided to American Indians (a much smaller population with more of a grievance), is an outright admission that they’ve given up hope of assimilating or “catching up” - not just with whites, but with EVERY population that washes up here - including African blacks.
Affirmative action and demands for handouts are the most crippling assault on blacks anyone could ever dream up; imagine what this would do to your self-image. Its like having a race in gym class and the teacher always lets you (and only you) start halfway to the finish line - and you still lose the race.
How long before everyone, except white men, gets disability plates so they can park close to the store?
Bad joke? I don’t know.
You’re absolutely right - but the West is running out of white men. They’d better get a plan B, or within a few decades Asian men will be targets of the same vilification and marginalization.
The “war on men” has convinced many of them to go to their graves childless, and caused many young ones to forego education and even jobs. The rest can reap what they’ve sown...
