Shutdown threat prompts U.S. agency warnings to federal workers

Government agencies were warning U.S. employees on Thursday of a possible federal shutdown at midnight on Friday, as the Republican-controlled Congress and the White House scrambled to pass legislation to keep the lights on in Washington.

President Donald Trump, answering reporters’ questions at the Pentagon, said on Thursday the U.S. government “could very well” shut down and that would be harmful to the military.

A shutdown would be an embarrassment for Republicans, who control the levers of power in the capital. But it might fulfill a wish Trump expressed in May 2017, when he tweeted: “Our country needs a good ‘shutdown’ in September to fix this mess.”

When the government shuts down, which has only happened three times in a meaningful way since 1995, hundreds of thousands of “non-essential” federal workers may be put on furlough, while “essential” employees, dealing with public safety and national security, would keep working.

The Government Accountability Office, an in-house watchdog unit of Congress, in an internal memo to staff seen by Reuters, said it would begin shutting down if Congress did not approve a temporary funding bill, known as a continuing resolution (CR).

The Justice Department, with many “essential” workers, has a shutdown contingency plan under which about 95,000 of the department’s almost 115,000 staff would keep working.

That’s the way the democrat slobbering, tail wagging MSM will report it. Liberals believe we can’t exist without bloated big government.

Since CR’s became a practice ergo “issue” several decades back we have had a succession of nutless presidents (Carter, Clinton, Bush 1, Bush 2, Obama.

Now, “OUR” MAN has to carry his into the Oval Office in a wheelbarrow.

I look for Trump, as smart as he is, to pull something out of the hat that let’s him have his cake and eat it too and thoroughly humiliate the Democrats. I’m thinking something like he doesn’t rehire ALL the furloughed employees AND he get’s his wall and he gets the military paid.

Trump will come out on top. He’s too smart for the establishment pubbies and way too smart for the dimwits.

The irony of a shutdown is that it gives non-essential employees additional time off with pay at taxpayer expense while inconveniencing the public. I think Trump would welcome the shutdown and use it to identify areas where a reduction in force would have the least impact on the public.

al Reuters: “A shutdown would be an embarrassment for Republicans, who control the levers of power in the capital.”

A shutdown by Schumer & Co. (the Schumer Shutdown) aided by a handful of GOP-e cucks—all opposed to smaller government, and caused by their preference for illegal aliens over our armed forces—is the GOP’s fault.
You can’t make this crap up, but the MSM will present it to us in the days ahead with straight faces.

I hear this alot. Yes, Republicans control the house with a comfortable MAJORITY. The Rep.also control the senate by a RAZOR THIN TWO VOTE MAJORITY. They cannot pass any legislation
in regular order without DEMOCRAT votes.

Got it?

Any government employee tagged as nonessential should be immediately terminated.

I’ll bet an large majority of the non-essential workers voted for Hillary and are aligned with Schumer. If they want a deal they should be calling their party leaders

In the event of a shutdown, the heart of the problem might lie in how it is determined what part will be shutdown & in how & who it is decided. Remember the resulting problems when there was a shutdown under Obama’s rule. What a stupid, unnecessary mess that was!
