Did anyone ever tell any of these people that words are only vehicles for carrying ideas?

The question, then, is, "Was the underlying idea conveyed?"

Further, do "Progressives" think that their repetition of the words undermines the message, or does that repetition simply reinforce the message?

You make an excellent point, an expansion of Rush’s own “words mean things.” By their repetition, these Congress critters are being hoisted upon their own petard, IMO.
