Personally, I like the Australian model. Not everyone gets in, have to prove how you can contribute to the Australian economy and fill a set of skills needed in Australia.
None of this "tired, poor, huddled masses" romantic bullshit we have here in the US with liberals saying we need to let everyone in. That's just crap.

The same in Switzerland. Very hard to get in and extremely hard to become a citizen. A colleague of mine from India did it in the 80s. He was an executive with Brown Boveri (prior to the Swedish Asea acquisition), so he was very well educated (PhD),very smart, and a solid contributor. I couldn’t believe how tough it was for him with those credentials and his family to get in.
