This is a book originally published in 1997 and republished in 2009 about a Washington Post correspondents experience in Africa as a professional and personal level.

He is horrified at what he finds.

And grateful that he is descended from those who left.

This is in my personal library, and I read it as part of my education on how to raise black adopted children. Along with Thomas Sowell’s works and a few others, it helped me chart a course.

Good morning.

Since everybody is going “Who????”, I don’t think Amazon will mind if you actually post something saying what/who you’re talking about.

*********

Publisher summary:

Nothing in Keith Richburg’s long and respected journalistic career at the Washington Post prepared him for what he would encounter as the paper’s correspondent in Africa. He found a continent where brutal murder had become routine, where dictators and warlords silenced dissent with machine guns and machetes, and where starvation had become depressingly common. With a great deal of personal anguish, Richburg faced a difficult question: If this is Africa, what does it mean to be an African American?

In this provocative and unvarnished account of his three years on the continent of his ancestors, Richburg takes us on a extraordinary journey that sweeps from Somalia to South Africa, showing how he confronted the divide between his African racial heritage and his American cultural identity.

Let me guess.

The author posits that Africa is a craphole and the USA isn't.

I borrowed this book from someone and I haven’t returned it yet. I’ve had it for 3 years and have read it multiple times.

One of the best books I have ever read.

I recently took a Black Studies class. I wanted to see for myself how bad things are.

The "curriculum" was a hodgepodge of angry rants by the professor, hatred of America, hatred of whites, hatred of Christianity, lies, and conspiracy theory.

The books and articles assigned were far left wing diatribes.

The professor also showed this movie (this is a trailer):

Out of Darkness: A Film by ∆+ (Official Trailer #2) - YouTube

The entire film is over 2 hours long. It is almost difficult to describe how inflammatory and deceptive this film really is. It starts out by claiming some weird Nubian/Kushitic origins of Nile Valley Civilization (read: the ancient Egyptians) as the foundation of black Africans. This notion is completely unscientific and has been disproved. Ramses II had red hair - we have his mummified body.

Yet the film goes into a rant about how black Africans "invented" just about everything on the planet: furniture, the fork, clothes, books, astronomy, medical surgery, music - you get the picture.

The film is hate speech against whites and also against Christianity - which these radicals consider to be a white religion. They cannot decided if they want a Black Jesus, so they end up jettisoning Christ altogether and in the end the film actually states that black people will become gods once the white race dies off and/or is exterminated. The lie told by Satan in Genesis 3:5 is completely missed by these people.

The delusion is so complete, the hatred so irrational, and and ignorance so pervasive that I have very little hope for people who have swallowed this poison. Joseph Goebbels could not have generated more effective propaganda.

I never went TDY to any countries in Africa, but two guys in my shop did. They said the only way they would go back, would be in a straitjacket. I kind of felt the same way, when I went TDY to Incirlik. I am sure it wasn’t as bad as Africa, but it was pretty bad. I thought that one week at Incirlik was worse than the whole year I spent in Vietnam.

I’ve never read the book but clearly remember the essay he wrote in the Washington Post. In fact, I just re-read it a few weeks ago and posted it to FR.

It tells the truth about much of Africa.

Would you please repost the article? A quick search failed to turn it up, & I’d rather not spend the money on the book.

Thank you.

Richburg was deeply unsettled by seeing how badly Africans treated each other — but with him as a Black American treated as if he were white and of a superior species.

Remember Ken Hamblin, thr Black Avenger? He reported a similar experience when he visited Africa. I hunted in Africa, and loved the wilderness, avoiding all population centers. They scared me.

I too have the book and have recommended it often to others. An excellent book. I think it pretty much went unnoticed when it first came out but today I’m sure he would take a beating for writing the truth. I see it was republished in 2009 and maybe in 2009 things hadn’t reached the fever pitch they are in today by speaking the truth!!!

A good friend of mine had a similar experience hunting in Africa. Avoid the cities was his advice if I ever visited there.
