Liberals call Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana shitholes all the time. I’ve been to all three, and lived in two of them; and believe me, liberals nationwide routinely said just those words when referring to the South in general, and those three states in particular (though sometimes they’d toss in Arkansas for flavoring).

I live in South Carolina fifty miles from where I was born six days before D-Day. I went off to Navy boot camp in ‘62 and I got looks of pity from guys who were born and raised in cities like Detroit. I sometimes think that it would be nice if people from all those places still looked down on my state rather than moving in here from everywhere.
