Not too long ago we talked about Ivy League psychiatrist Dr. Bandy X. Lee, who had briefed members of Congress (read: pretty much entirely Democrats) on President Trump’s mental health. Despite having never even met the President, say nothing of examined him, she apparently had quite a lot to say. Dr. Lee and her colleagues who jumped on the dogpile have been getting some significant pushback since then, with not only members of the press (a few of them, anyway) objecting, but drawing a formal rebuke from the American Psychiatric Association (APA) who called for an end to “armchair psychiatry.” (Legal Insurrection)
Today, the American Psychiatric Association (APA) reiterates its continued and unwavering commitment to the ethical principle known as The Goldwater Rule. We at the APA call for an end to psychiatrists providing professional opinions in the media about public figures whom they have not examined, whether it be on cable news appearances, books, or in social media. Armchair psychiatry or the use of psychiatry as a political tool is the misuse of psychiatry and is unacceptable and unethical.
The ethical principle, in place since 1973, guides physician members of the APA to refrain from publicly issuing professional medical opinions about individuals that they have not personally evaluated in a professional setting or context. Doing otherwise undermines the credibility and integrity of the profession and the physician-patient relationship.
As Mike Lachance at Legal Insurrection pointed out yesterday, two Harvard shrinks pushed back on this criticism in the pages of Politico, strangely claiming that diagnosing the President’s mental health from the other side of a television screen wasn’t violating the Goldwater Rule at all. In their opinion, since they aren’t diagnosing Trump “in a specific way” in their various publications and comments, everything is fair game. Also, it’s “not only acceptable but vitally necessary to have a public conversation about the mental state of our nations leader.”
Sorry, Doc, but I don’t think that’s going to fly. Take, for example, the idea of me writing a post on our site saying, hey… did you hear what the President said last night? That guy is nuts. That’s commentary, which you can agree with or dispute as you wish. It’s not even particularly useful commentary since the closest I ever came to medical school was shortly after a motorcycle accident in the 80s. But when two Doctors of Psychiatry from Harvard say the same thing, it’s a diagnosis. You don’t need to tell us the specific name of the mental ailment you suspect is plaguing a public official. (I’d wager more than a few of us wouldn’t know what it meant without hitting up Google anyway.) It’s sufficient just to say that something isn’t right.
But, hey… don’t let us stop you. There’s finally all sorts of political and media figures paying attention to you. Enjoy your fifteen minutes while it lasts.
For those who are unaware, psychiatrists are medical doctors. They prescribe drugs. Psychologists help to evaluate and provide mental therapy.
I’m not a licensed professional either but my diagnosis is, she’s an idiot.

We psychologically evaluate police, federal agents and certain military to ensure they are “fit for duty”. They have the power to impact many lives and we realized it’s best to make sure in advance that they aren’t crazy. Before an incident happens in the field.
So, why is the same thing not done for all politicians prior to getting on the ballot? These people have the power to change laws that affect millions, start wars and launch nukes.
I’m not saying President Trump has to go. I just think this should be part of a medical screening for anyone wanting to be President.
I believe it is unprofessional to diagnose a person without a thorough examination. However, there are cases where it is obvious that the individual has psychiatric problems. This was the case with the former Harvard lecturer Billy Boggs. Ivy League psychiatrist Dr. Bandy X. Lee is showing definite signs that she is a coprocephalic.
If you’re not very familiar with the 25th Amendment to the United States Constitution, you might want to review this bit from Section 4 — it’ll become very relevant during this week’s Madam Secretary:
Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.

The Madam Secretary episode, titled “Sound and Fury,” was pitched in October and filmed in November — long before Michael Wolff’s recently published book Fire and Fury kicked up discussion that President Donald Trump might be suffering mental difficulties, something Trump has vehemently denied in a tweet. The CBS series’ prescience when it comes to anticipating national and international incidents has become something of an inside joke among its cast and crew; star Tim Daly once joked to TVLine that “Sometimes people will say to me we’re ripped from the headlines, which is actually not true. The headlines are ripped from our show.”
“I stand in awe, repeatedly, as to how brilliantly they anticipated the human condition,” Carradine says, pointing out that the series is “aspirational” and therefore unconnected to anything actually taking place at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. “So here we have a chance to show, yet again on our little show, how a situation might be dealt with if there was a question about the health of our Commander in Chief.”
IIRC, the Dems have been pitching 25th Amendment scenarios since mid-2017, if not before.
So Hollywood, don't urinate on my back and tell me that it's raining.
Yet they said nothing about Pelosi? She probably is operating at less than 10% mental capacity. And what about John McShame? The guy has a brain tumor and nobody is questioning his cognitive function?
I’m still betting that if somebody dug deep enough they would find this “Bandy X Lee” is on the payroll of Chinese or North Korean intelligence as an Agitprop agent, paid to spread dissent in the US.
They approach the human mind, heart, and soul without any Biblical reference to the reality of our condition. They make up "syndromes" at the drop of a hat, and treat every "condition" with a cocktail of drugs that often leave their patients in a worse condition than when they started "treatment."
They discount the influence and actions of demons. Not every human being is a victim of demonic possession or oppression, but many are - and the APA would never, ever acknowledge this Biblical truth.
Psychiatrists and psychologists might as well wave chicken bones at their patients - it would probably have the same effect as their current "treatments."
I don't discount the healing value of talking about problems and facing them. Heck, Alcoholics Anonymous does that and has a pretty good track records helping those who commit to it.
But most of what these charlatans in the "mental health industry" practice is fraud, smoke, and mirrors - to the tune of Billions of dollars per year.
IOW - you fake freelance Voodoo artists is making the rest of us Voodoo artists look like charlatans....
I agree, ... all SHRINKS stink!
I can diagnose her with “Crazy Eyes” from that one picture.
Yes you are.
The simple fact that you failed to include Senators and Representatives speaks volumes.
And therein you will find too many mentally challenged and truly stupid individuals. The mental state of the president is irrelevant if the people supporting him or attempting to destroy him are pervert fruit loops; e.g. Pelosis...
That woman has manic eyes; definitely NOT normal.
Horse crap.
I specifically said all “politicians” which includes everyone from city council to Senators.
But especially the President due to his power to initiate military actions
