Walmart is suddenly closing several Sam's Club stores across the US.
Closures were reported by local media in Texas, New York, New Jersey, Indiana, Arizona, Alaska, and elsewhere.
In some cases, employees were not informed of the closures prior to showing up to work on Thursday.
Instead, they learned that their store would be closing when they found the store's doors locked and a notice announcing the closure, according to reports.
Walmart and Sam's Club did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Sam's Club offered an explanation on Twitter, however, saying, "After a thorough review of our existing portfolio, weve decided to close a series of clubs and better align our locations with our strategy. Closing clubs is never easy and were committed to working with impacted members and associates through this transition."

Many companies do the layoff thing at Christmas....it’s a cynical exercise designed to encourage the employees so affected to view politicians with a jaundiced eye.
So Wal-Mart raises beginners’ pay from $9.00 to $11.00/hour, but at the same time, closes a number of stores?
Looks like they’ll keep most of that tax cut money for themselves after all.
Die, corporate scum!!!
Additionally big block stores are increasingly closing stores as on line purchases and specialty shops have grown popular with the public.
Oh, you're no fun anymore. You just ruined a perfectly good anti-capitalist rant.
Same here..Costco has now surpassed Sam’s Club.
Thanks for the info. My apologies to them for assuming the worst.
One other thing.....even when they’re closing stores that are not profitable they are ‘opening’ new stores in other areas....the news always fails to disclose that fact.
And many of those workers will work at the new stores.
Of course. Wal-Mart actually doing productive things would not fit their narrative.
They’re usually offered jobs to transfer to other stores if they want.... most don’t as they’d rather take unemployment.
That’s right....again the left’s media arm is to make the economy ‘look bad’ because Trumps in office.....
BTW, one of the stores named is the one I normally use, and according to an employee there, they'd had a meeting, were told the store is not closing, and she wondered where my information had come from.
