They all knew it wouldn't look as political as it was if it was McCain who gave them the dossier rather than the Hillary campaign who commissioned and paid for the report. This almost guarantees that it was this dossier which was used to get the FISA warrant on Trump. Why else would they go through all this a**-covering.

The only problem with that chronology is that McCain gave the dossier to Comey in December 2016 and the alleged FISA warrant was issued in October 2016. Some doubts are now arising that there was ever a FISA warrant.
