Stars Black Out Golden Globes Red Carpet in Support of Time’s Up Movement
Variety ^ | 7 Jan 18 | ten Chuba

As expected, stars of film and television blacked out the red carpet of the Golden Globes on Sunday.

Women and men across the industry wore black in support of the #MeToo movement and gender equality in light of the recent wave of Hollywood sexual harassment allegations. Many on the carpet also wore pins supporting Time’s Up, an initiative recently founded by 300 prominent women in entertainment to fight harassment and abuse in the workplace. The group, led by stars like Reese Witherspoon, Shonda Rhimes, Kerry Washington and America Ferrera, was the one to organize the all-black carpet and took the message to social media with #WhyWeWearBlack.

Red carpet reporters made an effort to prioritize asking about the #metoo movement rather than the typical “Who are you wearing?” Stars were vocal about their reasons for wearing black to the awards show and what the movement meant to them. Emma Watson told Variety of her experiences with harassment, saying that “I have experienced the full spectrum, but I think for me what’s amazing is my experience is not unique, the experience of my friends is not unique, the experience of my colleague is not unique, this issue is so systemic, so structural.”

“The Beauty and the Beast” star, who brought women’s activist Marai Larasi as her date to the ceremony, said the movement made her very emotional and added, “You realize if you speak to most women, they have an experience, they have a story, and we’re just scratching the surface of this which is really crazy.”

#MeToo

Those of us who are out of our teenage years remember that "#" was called the "pound sign".

#MeToo ... Pound Me, Too?

Yeah ... Pervy Swinesteen will be right on it. Or on you. Or something.

I think this pet SJW concept is a brilliant move.

You have this pet SJW hang around and be your Politically Correct coach/councilor.

When social media lights up calling for your job or career, you simply point to your pet SJW, blame it, terminate Their employment (resolving the made up indiscretion), and move on with your life

Just watched a 1998 film with Reese Witherspoon called Twlight. She was kind enough to display her twenty-two year old boobies and ass in several scenes. Great acting job Reese!

Ian McKellen gave an interview last month, where he said that it is well known in Hollywood that actresses get jobs by offering to have sex. I guess he got away with saying this because he is gay. He said it is (and has been) a standard practice in Hollywood for actresses to write “DRR” on their “head shot” publicity photo. DRR stands for “Director’s Rights Respected” and is code for saying they are available for sex in order to get the role.

I just got through reading a really good bio on Bob Hope and it mentioned that Hope was friends with Dave Thomas from SCTV, who did, in my opinion, the best Bob Hope imitation of anyone. I re-watched on YouTube the SCTV sketch “Play It Again Bob”. It is still one of the funniest I have ever seen.

Never really got the humor of SNL...SCTV was(my opinion)much better, much more creative.

Though Candy, Levy, O'Hara, others found some success after SCTV(nothing like SNL actors)Joe Flaherty was(to me)one of the most under-rated/appreciated comics of my time. Maybe it was that he felt more comfortable in the(make your own character)SCTV format, rather than big hollywood's way of "follow the script", maybe he simply wasn't given big screen/other opportunities...who knows(his/theirs/our loss).

Speaking of Dave Thomas, he played great characters on SCTV(including Hope), but watching him on that "Grace" TV show was literally...painful.

...and maybe just goes to show the difference between the freedom of SCTV's individual creativity vs. doing it the more restrictive/controlled "hollywood" way.

That said, PC has ruined comedy...even many liberal comedians have admitted that fact.

Too bad about Emma Watson.
BTW she will not pay for any dental work. That would fix a problem when liberals thrive on only talking about problems.

Oh, and Emma Watson, your “date” last night (women’s activist Marai Larasi) needs some dental work.

You expect a Brit to know anything about dental work?
