I always have had a pickup truck. I used to have a problem with them skidding. When I was stationed on Cape Cod I thought the fix was to get a 4X4. Got an F-150 4X4 but seemed to slide even worse.
Best advice a Yankee gave me there: weigh down the bed, right over the rear axle. After that, always had 8 50 lb. bags of sand over the rear axle. Quit sliding and rode better even in 2X4. Night and day difference!
For any driver, doing slick skid practice in an empty parking lot, with their own vehicle no matter what it is, would be good training for everybody.
