Well when he was running he did comment that he’d like to see the defamation laws “changed”. I think he referred to those who are a “public figure” have an insurmountable burden to go after media for obvious malicious lies. A unanimous Supreme Court set the standard in 1964 with NY Times v Sullivan (a county commissioner). You have to prove actual malice, know a story is false or recklessly publish with disregard of the truth. Well that often seems to be obvious, but courts have leaned real far over backwards to protect the First Amendment and to hell with privacy and destroying ones name, reputation and livelihood. I hope Trump does test the envelope. He needs to appoint more Supreme Court Judges who agree with him and he needs to file some suits himself. None of those 1964 Judges are still on the bench.
