President Donald J. Trumps wall along the southern border will cost at least $18 billion, per a Congressional source first reported by The Wall Street Journal. But, President Trump insists that Mexico will pay for the wall and that Democrats will agree to it.
According to The Wall Street Journal's source, the Department of Homeland Security has requested 316 miles of new fencing plus an additional 407 miles of reinforcing fencing to be built over the next decade, costing taxpayers $18 billion.
According to NBC News, Democrats are already condemning the plan. Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois, the minority whip, called the request "outrageous."
"President Trump has said he may need a good government shutdown to get his wall. With this demand, he seems to be heading in that direction," Durbin said in a statement. He said that the administration was undercutting bipartisan efforts to help those protected by DACA with the $18 billion request and other immigration demands.
This figures comes as President Trump stated again today that he believes Mexico will pay for the wall. Trump was speaking to reporters from Camp David, where he is planning his 2018 agenda with Republican leaders this weekend.
I believe Mexico will pay for the wall. I have a very good relationship with Mexico, Mr. Trump told reporters.
He also added that construction of the border wall, a key tenant of his campaign, is absolutely necessary for any sort of deal on President Obamas Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. DACA has allowed thousands of illegal aliens brought into the country by their parents as children to stay in the United States, despite lack of proper citizenship.

Notice the contrast here. If Dems really cared about these Dreamers, they would accept Trump’s position. But Trump has brilliantly exposed them as the open-border fanatics they are.
Probably not.
Would it be better than status quo ante?
Probably a little - illegals are Latinos and chain migration and the diversity lottery are bringing in Muslims.
Start deporting 10,000 dreamers a month while we negotiate.
Until the wall is funded, installed, and fully manned.
Border wall, now. DACA, slow-walked into the next century.
Where was the outcry about the extra 900+ Billion that Obama got to spend due to the baseline budgeting for each of seven years after the so-called stimulus? Congress never argued about a budget because they just skipped that constitutional duty.
This isn’t about whether we have the money or not. It’s about whether “our” government is willing to allocate it.
DACA SOULD NOT be part of our wall.
How about NO DACA even if the wall is built. You don’t reward criminals..EVER
That’s an excellent idea.
The Wall will be fully built when Hillary is imprisoned.
“next decade” How about the next 2 yrs?
DACA didn’t even exist until obama created it
Exactly. A decade is WAY too long to wait.
Fakenews CNN news cycle domination:
“Not-genius President Trump drew attention for his claim that he is a genius (he is not a genius, based on CNN reporting, to comment on DACA, which it doesn’t take a genius to know is essential because many immigrants are geniuses. Here with commentary on this non-genius move by a non-genius President is...”
In other words, Trump is undercutting the effort to give the Democrats what they want by asking them to give him something that he wants. How unfair.
I want a real wall, like the ones along the highways, not some stupid fence.
Plus how did this go from 2200 miles to 1500 miles (I understand the terrain in some areas just don’t need a wall) down to 400 miles?
We are being short changed here
President Trump needs to hold his ground on the 1500 miles, any gaps and you are just inviting them in.
Build the wall!
That sounds like about 25% of the wall. They get 25% of Daca. You dont get 100% of daca and 25% of the wall unless you make a gigantic political error,.
This.
After the last brick has been laid, give them a written examination, pick the top 50 and kick the remaining 799,950 out.
