You are all correct, However in the present MSM (Revisionist History) narrative, labeling Democrats as McCarthyist is a significantly negative charge, and entirely correct.

I am glad to see that the gubmint school system has failed in its indoctrination attempts. McCarthy may not have been a very nice man and drank to much, but his basic assertion that the State Department and other government agencies were riddled with communist traitors. If not for Richard Nixon getting Alger Hiss and Joe McCarthy you and I would have been sent to a Gulag in North Dakota a long time ago.
