The Trump administration on Thursday moved to vastly expand offshore drilling from the Atlantic to the Arctic oceans with a plan that would open up federal waters off the California coast for the first time in more than three decades.
The new five-year drilling plan also could open new areas of oil and gas exploration in areas off the East Coast from Georgia to Maine, where drilling has been blocked for decades. Many lawmakers in those states support offshore drilling, although the Democratic governors of North Carolina and Virginia oppose drilling off their state coasts.
Florida Gov. Rick Scott, a Republican, also opposes offshore drilling near his state, as do the three Democratic governors on the West Coast.
Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke announced the plan Thursday, saying that responsible development of offshore energy resources would boost jobs and economic security while providing billions of dollars to fund conservation along U.S. coastlines. [ ]
Industry groups praised the announcement, which would be the most expansive offshore drilling proposal in decades. The proposal follows President Donald Trumps executive order in April encouraging more drilling rights in federal waters, part of the administrations strategy to help the U.S. achieve energy dominance in the global market.
A coalition of more than 60 environmental groups denounced the plan, saying in a joint statement that it would impose severe and unacceptable harm to Americas oceans, coastal economies, public health and marine life.

Bigger, greater even than Reagan..?
Drill, baby, drill!
America is over! </sarc>
I can see Jerry Brown's head exploding right now. I love it!
Refinery expansion has to happen too. The Dem/RINO moratorium has to go.
We shall have to fight the greenies forever and we can predict that a future administration will relent and give in to stop drilling altogether.
In Chico CA, where I lived last year, every other house had an anti-fracking sign. Now I guess they’ll need one to reflect off shore drilling. Hope they vote with their dollars and not use or buy anything with petroleum. There goes their plastic drink bottles that they suck on all day like gerbils.
The liberals will have their meltdown over this issue.
Holy moley drilling will happen???
AMEN, President Trump! Thank you!
Wonder how this will play in Florida?
Dunno for sure, but the AP article made sure to point out Rick Scott’s opposition.
Let the oil-rich A-rabs swim n their crude!
The problem in California is getting the oil across the beach: State, County and sometimes even City approvals are required to bring it over their jurisdiction. But, this throws down the gauntlet.
From CNN yesterday:
America could become oil king of the world in 2018
by Matt Egan @MattEganCNN January 3, 2018: 11:33 AM ET
The United States is poised to ramp up crude oil production by 10% in 2018 to about 11 million barrels per day, according to research firm Rystad Energy.
Surging shale oil output should allow the United States to dethrone Russia and Saudi Arabia as the planet's leading crude oil producer, Rystad predicted in a recent report. The U.S. hasn't been the global leader, nor ahead of both Russia and Saudi Arabia, since 1975.
Trump Energy Policy...more WIN
It surely isn't a technical problem. Just fire up that bad boy offshore and horizontal drill to your nearest underground pipeline hub. No one would be the wiser.
So sayeth the Russian-, Saudi- and Deep State-funded environMENTALists.
More winning! Still not tired of it.
Will be tied up in CA and FL Courts for years..
