[[A vulnerability was discovered that enables “malicious code” as simple as Javascript to access the protected memory in the CPU.]]

So if one turns off java script they won’t have to get the ‘fix’?

Would be a pain havign to disallow java- but i guess one could allow it only on certain known good sites, and ban it from all others?

Good point. Reap the cash and blame it on Trump.

Using Javascript was one mechanism to expose the vulnerability. If it was as simple as turning off Javascript don't think this issue would have the buzz it does right now.

The large international bank I work for is in the process of figuring out how to deploy and test the patch we received from Microsoft as I type. This is a HUGE issue in financial services right now. I haven't seen this much talk and action in our bank since the Iranian's were trying to hack financial services a few years ago now.

Does this bug exist in virtual environments, like vmware?

oh it’s gonna be devastating no doubt- Hopefully your bank gets protected soon- This has the ability to wreak major havoc throughout the world really- Can’t believe it’s come to this really- You’re right- it’s a major deal- and plenty of nervous folks- rightfully so- Even power PCs users will be facing slowdowns on their high performance machines- not going to make them very happy. People spent good money to get high performance- and now they are going to lose some of that? Bet they are hoppin mad-

The spectre deal is pretty major too- sounds liek it’s going to be very difficult to apply a fix-

Sounds too like we’ll have to flash our bioses? If so wow- that could be dangerous- What a mess-

I wondered that too- where it’s a hardware issue, I woudl think that yes- it will affect VM’s too as you need to run the VM on a host, and the host will be affected- I’m not sure- don’t know too much about htis stuff really-

That would be worst case from what I’m reading. Almost nobody will experience that. At the end of it I’d bet that most won’t experience anything of consequence...probably won’t even notice.

So, if we unplug the PC and stick it in a closet and go back to snail mail, and the library for research and info, we would be okay, right?
