How California’s Plan to Protect Undocumented Immigrants Will Play Out in San Diego
Voice of San Diego ^ | Tuesday, January 2, 2018 | Maya Srikrishnan

California offers some of the broadest protections and rights to undocumented immigrants in the country, and the California Values Act, which went into effect Jan. 1, makes those protections even stronger.

Indeed, the law – also known as SB 54, or the sanctuary state law – will have a significant impact, particularly for certain people. It will also eventually shed light on the way local law enforcement interacts with federal agencies, like Border Patrol, the FBI and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

But particularly in San Diego County, where there are high concentrations of federal law enforcement and numerous joint local and federal operations and task forces intended to tackle border-related crimes, it’s still unclear just how far the new protections extend.

For example, the Escondido Police Department was awarded a $250,000 federal grant in December to hire new officers – and the federal government made clear that cooperation in immigration enforcement was a big driver in who was chosen, reported the Union-Tribune.

Sheriff Bill Gore said all the politics around SB 54 created some internal conflict for him. On one hand, if the 200,000 to 300,000 undocumented immigrants estimated to live within the department’s jurisdiction are scared to come to law enforcement to report crimes or be witnesses, that could create a huge public safety issue.

On the other hand, he said, “There are people who are in the county illegally who do bad things, who smuggle drugs or commit violent crimes, and I don’t want the politics of what is going on to get in the way of public safety.”

This should be declared unconstitutional.
It violates the Equal Protection Clause by targeting a specific group for special treatment not given to all Americans.

There is a potential positive side to this. Other states can drive out illegal aliens, let them overrun California. ICE can set up checkpoints on all roads out of California and control the infestation. Heck, California already has entry check stations, let Border Patrol do same on exit. Maybe this can be constructively leveraged.

That non-criminal illegal aliens would be "scared to come to law enforcement to report crimes or be witnesses" if immigration-detainers were honored is the big lie the open-borders local officials continue to hide behind.

Here is a copy of a DETAINER:

IT IS ONLY PLACED AGAINST THOSE ALREADY IN POLICE/PRISON CUSTODY!

NOT FOR VICTIMS/WITNESSES OF CRIMES!!!

Sheriff Gore is ethically compromised, IMHO.

He still refuses to issue concealed carry permits to nearly everyone.

He plead the 5th in the Congressional hearing of the Riby Ridge raid.

“The exact role that Sheriff William Gore played in this incident is unclear — he plead the 5th and refused to speak to investigators in the Congressional hearing following the incident. However, he was the bureau chief of the FBI office in charge at Ruby Ridge, and likely played a prominent role in the decision making process. The Sheriff’s Department’s abrupt and aggressive censorship of Karras’ posts referencing the Ruby Ridge connection makes us all the more suspicious that he committed wrongdoing.”

Last night, on the local news, I heard they were “Undocumented People”.....

Leno,in his last years, was brave enough to refer to them as "undocumented democrats".

I want to know just how many illegals that live within the department’s jurisdiction come to law enforcement to report crimes or be witnesses.

Frankly, I bet that is a bog load of baloney.

There must be a lot of law enforcement cooperation provided by federal authorities to Kalifornia that could be denied due to this ridiculous new law.

Why should the FBI offer fingerprint identification services to Kalifornia authorities? Just let Kalifornia operate their own fingerprint database. They can purchase copies of the records presently on file; on paper, of course.

The same would hold true for any federal DNA database.

Rob a bank in Kalifornia and flee to another state? Too bad, so sad. Take care of it yourself, Kalifornia.

Sounds like an opportunity to practice "the art of the deal".

Aren’t Sanctuary cities, state condoning Human Trafficking?

Pretty well - that, and other lucrative third-worldish rackets. Right in the midst of a nationwide gang crackdown, safe spaces are being setup and maintained to garrison in and safely operate from. Sorta like how the bad guys in Afghanistan flee over to Pakistan, the Viet Cong hopped back and forth out of Laos and Cambodia. California and other places are creating a mess of trouble with this move that can and will spin into a threat that will have to be confronted before it grows into something permanent that's hard to assail and overturn.

Human history records quite a few incidents like this when a province or such got defiant. Typically what happened was an army marched in, chopped off some heads and posted them up on the gates of a main city. Things got back into line afterwards. Not advocating cutting off any heads, but this is going to have to get dealt with and reversed in a serious matter.

as head cop of a border town, I’d be embarassed to admit I had 200,000 to 300,000 illegals living illegally in my town. That’s a lot of low-income electric, water bill, food, school and housing subsidies that could have helped poor citizens get a leg up. Sure justifies a large police department, tho. Except in the hispanic community, snitches get stitches since most disputes are solved intra-familia.
