Several years ago some news taking head in the USA referred to a visiting Black South African as an “African-American from South Africa.”
Since when do you expect the press to pay attention to details?
Besides, in the US none of them have been to Africa, so the use of the appellation “African American” is equally stupid here. Try telling an African immigrant and new citizen that he or she is an “African American” some time and see how they respond. You’ll get an earful.
