A gunman shot and killed a deputy, and wounded four other deputies and two civilians at an apartment complex during a domestic violence call early Sunday morning, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said.

About 5:15 a.m., deputies responded the Copper Canyon Apartments complex at 3404 E. County Line Road in Highlands Ranch, between Colorado and University boulevards.

A gunman opened fire, hitting five deputies and two civilians. One deputy was confirmed dead and the six others were taken to hospitals, the sheriff’s office said.

The gunman was shot, is believed to be dead and is “no longer a threat,” the sheriff’s office said.

Thanks! Looks like actual reportage. Nice to know that still happens even if only in flyover country.

Yes. It is a shame that the Denver Post will not even let us post a link only. But yes, it is a well done article. And is a local issue and they actually still have writers who can gather information and put it in print.

I am cautious about blaming all writers for a particular publication, there are good ones in almost all organizations. Unfortunately often the good ones that are accurate, are often filtered out by the paid agenda of the owners and management of the publication.

My pleasure. When I found the article with the good quality photos I thought most would want to see them.

Could not post because of copyright issues with owners of the Denver Post.

He said he was going to run on the Libertarian ticket for sheriff, the Libertarians said they have no record of him even being connected in the slightest with their party and there is no record of him attempting to file for any office.

I suspect he is a drug user of some type. Prescription or other.

SSRI? Most of the killer whack jobs recently have them in their history.

Yes. And if he was suffering from PTSD he probably was taking something like that.

It could also be heavy Pot use. Colorado has made “reefer madness” much more common.

It's not a violation of copyright to post a simple link. For whatever reason, FR doesn't allow this.

I’m sure they were threatened.

I’m not blaming FR at all.

This is an example of why LEOs might be just a bit twitchy when responding to calls

Or a result.
