A gunman shot and killed a deputy, and wounded four other deputies and two civilians at an apartment complex during a domestic violence call early Sunday morning, the Douglas County Sheriffs Office said.
About 5:15 a.m., deputies responded the Copper Canyon Apartments complex at 3404 E. County Line Road in Highlands Ranch, between Colorado and University boulevards.
A gunman opened fire, hitting five deputies and two civilians. One deputy was confirmed dead and the six others were taken to hospitals, the sheriffs office said.
The gunman was shot, is believed to be dead and is no longer a threat, the sheriffs office said.

But Law enforcement comes in lots of flavors. Most here are great people. Some few have personal issues.
Texas Rangers here have the best overall reputation. Quiet, effective.
Fed Agency police? not so much. Issue of detachment from the community.

My friend was a Cowboy type, he was a salesman for a wholesale hardware company I worked for. He was a volunteer with the Sheriff department mounted patrol. He was a great guy. Have not heard from him since I left that company. Pretty sure he is retired now.
This is factually untrue. If the body is left there and rots, and the rot spreads to a water source, this gunman could still sicken or kill hundreds more.
No excuses to shoot unarmed noncombatants...
Professionalism is just that... if you cant do the job because youre too scared then quit, before another innocent is dead.
These excuses are just absurd. Incidents such as these used as justification for terrified cops shooting unarmed people is pathetic.
We are either a nation of laws where EVERYONE is held to the same legal standards or were Somalia.
Nice with the internet it makes it easier to find people if one desires.
