If Trump does run for reelection the rats will have to find a total unknown who is as innocent as a lamb to run against him. No known democrat can stand the scrutiny. At this point I think the only person who can stop a second Trump term is the Donald himself.

No, we don’t have resign to run in TN. Sen. Beavers felt she couldn’t adequately serve and run for Governor at the same time. But, still, Pody’s 1% margin in the special to succeed her was really terrible.
I went back to the 2006 Senate contest between Ford and Corker (only close TN statewide contest I could find). Interestingly enough, Ford carried some of the counties in Beavers’ district, including Cannon, DeKalb, and Smith.
I suspect this was a case of a district with some ancestorial Democrat tendencies trending back due to low turnout, no incumbent, and energized Dems. Basically if you’re in a district that’s trended Republican only recently (past couple of decades), you’re going to have watch out for some snapback if the political winds aren’t in your favor.
Smith was the epicenter of the Gore Family Kingdom, though virtually every White rural county has moved to the GOP in TN. But turnout amongst the GOP was so anemic, about 1/7th from the Nov ‘16 election. Wilson County, however, which is Pody’s home base (which he won with 75% of the vote in ‘16), he won with just 1%. That was just an atrocious performance by any stretch for a 4-term House member that was considered the heir apparent for the Senate seat.

Seems democrats in Washington and Hollywood thought they had a free pass from the press... pushing, groping, rape... a pass if the “D” was by the name. The pass worked for many years.
