ILINet State Activity Indicator Map: Data collected in ILINet are used to produce a measure of ILI activity* by state. Activity levels are based on the percent of outpatient visits in a state due to ILI and are compared to the average percent of ILI visits that occur during weeks with little or no influenza virus circulation. Activity levels range from minimal, which would correspond to ILI activity from outpatient clinics being below, or only slightly above, the average, to high, which would correspond to ILI activity from outpatient clinics being much higher than average.

During week 51, the following ILI activity levels were experienced:

21 states experienced high activity (Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and West Virginia).

New York City and five states experienced moderate ILI activity (Colorado, Hawaii, New York, North Dakota, and Virginia).

Eight states experienced low ILI activity (Alaska, Florida, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, and Wyoming).

14 states experienced minimal ILI activity (Delaware, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, New Hampshire, Ohio, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont, Washington, and Wisconsin).

Data was insufficient to calculate an ILI activity level from the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and two states (Connecticut and North Carolina).

I’ll bet you never want to be that sick again either! It was memorable.

"I hope that’s true but unfortunately most of those I have admitted to the hospital did have the vaccine"

And they were well rested athletes in their twenties, right? ;-)

Something I learned from the Army (infantry-related, even in a manual). Exercise as vigorously and as much as safely practicable before getting sick for deeper sleep.

Something I learned since then. If civilian and already ill, rest and don't overdo it. I don't work in any job related to medicine, though.

Something for the other folks here. True enough?

Flu vaccines don’t contain a live virus. Although a very rare few can suffer side effects, the vaccines cannot cause the flu. Tell your doctor or pharmacist about any allergies that you may have, and ask about possible side effects.

Of course not Most are over 60 but not all are frail. It’s best to be as healthy as you can before any challenge but we were discussing the efficacy of the flu vaccine this year

It was awful all right-barely-able-to-move sick for over a week-and some of my classmates were sick for nearly a month. I was that sick the few times I got flu shots-it is why I won’t do it again-bring on the vitaC, echinacea, zinc and Boiron Oscillococinum or however it is spelled-that combo seems to work for me.

I got the quad this October. I’ve always wondered how they project which strains to target.

"We’re a tad bit west of Knoxville and Hubby and I began to feel a little punky today. Not sure if it’s flu or just E. TN allergy stuff. Both had the vaccine, but I think they’re just placebos. Went to Walmart yesterday. :("

Thanks for the report! Hopefully, if it's a flu strain, the vaccine will make it milder than it could have been. I was told that the vaccine takes about a couple of weeks to develop your antibodies against flu to best effectiveness.

The vaccine I received was real. Felt a tiny bit weird and was a little pale for two or three hours afterward. Very slight headache. Barely felt it. No problem now. It affects different people in different ways.

Had flu shots in the National Guard in the early '90s and one again in the early 2000s. I suspect those were different. Others are reported slight aftereffects with the newer shots but nothing serious. Some--maybe most--will notice no side effect at all.

Regarding “potheads are the source of vaccines are evil conspiracy theories”

Big Pharma production of “no liability” vaccines and colluding medical industry are the real cause behind vaccine injury conspira-facts.
You did know that US Taxpayers have paid out $3,700,000,000 in government vaccine court for THOUSANDS of vaccine injury / death cases.
You knew that, right?

https://vaccinesafetycommission.org/vicp.html

50 Studies
VICP The Vaccine Court
CDC Conflicts
AAP Studies

The Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (”VICP”) is run by the Department of Health & Human Services. Most Americans are surprised to learn that vaccines can and do cause injury, disability and death. Some notable facts about this program:

Claims for vaccine injury have been paid by the VICP since 1988.The money to pay American citizens for vaccine injury comes from a tax on every vaccine given, vaccine makers do NOT contribute to this program (they operate liability-free).

17,835 claims have been filed by Americans for vaccine injury. Of those, 1,219 were filed by family members for the death of a loved one.
Injuries vaccines can cause include Encephalopathy, anaphylactic shock, Brachial Neuritis, any acute complication or sequela (including death) of an illness, chronic arthritis, Thrombocytopenic purpura, and Paralytic Polio Intussusception, to name just a few of the Table Injuries described by the VICP.
As of February 1, 2017, the VICP has paid Americans $3.584 billion dollars for vaccine injury (source).

“Maybe we will finally find out why the Vaccine Injury Compensation Fund has paid out over $3 BILLION for vaccine injuries - at the same time it claimed that vaccines do not cause injuries...”

Not interested in a flu shot. My Doc thinks I’m nuts. Maybe.

I take 5000 iu of vitamin D3 each day. Haven’t been sick in years. Maybe, maybe not ‘cause of the vit D. Certainly hasn’t hurt and it’s not expensive.

"Regarding 'potheads are the source of vaccines are evil conspiracy theories'"

I had written, "Potheads in the neighborhood are among the conspiracy theorists saying that vaccinations are evil." If they don't get high, they won't experience the rush of panic or paranoia that comes with the front end of that high. It won't turn into panic syndrome later on. Perceptions will normalize. Quitting is a win-win decision! :-)

"You knew that, right?...And you do know about...Right?"

Relax, and let's have a look. There were 8.8 cases of Guillain–Barré syndrome per million of those getting the flu and/or being vaccinated in 1976 (swine flu epidemic). That's rare. The flu itself can induce Guillain–Barré syndrome. The benefits of the vaccine outweigh the risks. It's safe for those who experienced the syndrome in the past to be vaccinated.

I’m not sure what my thing going on is.

Yesterday about 12 or so, I started feeling really cold internally in a warm house. All my muscles felt achy and very weak.

I was dressed up like Nanook of the north up until this morning.

I’ve slowly started warming up and got a little strength back.

Mostly I’ve slept a lot.

“”I had the Hong Kong flu in college “”

Same here - both myself and husband in 1969. Could crawl to the kitchen to get an orange and that was it. Coincidentally, we both stopped smoking just a couple of months before we were hit.

Never had a flu shot until diagnosed with COPD 4 years ago...Wasn’t going to take a chance on anything resembling the Hong Kong flu again. Never did have the flu after 1969 and I figured that sucker was so bad it immunized us...

Better watch out - there are some pretty fierce FReepers who will tell you those claims are all hooey....facts don’t support blah blah blah. A couple of us had rounds with him a few weeks back - now you can. Perhaps he’s on vacation - lucky you. The kind who will resort to insults if you question him. He doesn’t want to touch the claims that are turned down by the vaccine court - they’re just meaningless - no substance. Argues like a democrat!

If I recall correctly, they chose not to include H2N3 in the vaccine this year, I’d be very curious to know if that is the strain going around this year.

You are sorely mistaken.
For Many vaccine recipients, the cure is worse than the disease.
Especially in light of reported poor efficacy 10 - 20%...
Flu shots are a ridiculous risk / reward proposition that provide a false sense of unprovable protection.

From the current influenza vaccine package insert (that most doctors fail to disclose to sheeple patients):

The following events have been spontaneously reported during the post-approval use of the trivalent formulation of Fluzone.
Adverse events were included based on one or more of the following factors:
16 • Blood and Lymphatic System Disorders: Thrombocytopenia, lymphadenopathy
17 • Immune System Disorders: Anaphylaxis, other allergic/hypersensitivity reactions (including
18 urticaria, angioedema)
19 • Eye Disorders: Ocular hyperemia
20 • Nervous System Disorders: Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), convulsions, febrile
21 convulsions, myelitis (including encephalomyelitis and transverse myelitis), facial palsy
22 (Bell’s palsy), optic neuritis/neuropathy, brachial neuritis, syncope (shortly after vaccination),
23 dizziness, paresthesia

I quit practicing 3 years ago and work as a director in a building several miles from the hospital but because I have MD after my name, I’m required to be vaccinated also. Fine by me though haven’t missed a dose in 28 years.
