As impressive as the “tank man” photo is - the wider view, uncropped image is even more impressive with the row of tanks heading back into the distance and disappearing around a corner iirc. With that large a show of force, I can easily imagine 10,000+ people killed. Sick.

Thanks also for the HKFP news link - hadn’t seen it before, it’s really informative. I have a dear friend in HK, so non-party approved news is always nice to come by.
I was humbled by “tank man’s” valor and have been resigned to assuming he died a brutal death. I was so impressed with those thousands of people who put their lives on the line to resist tyranny and am stunned as well as grieved to learn that so many died. I should have assumed that level of death, but I didn’t want to believe it.
Kinda think this revelation should have been added to one of the sidebar listings.
