Most of the layoffs are those who work with the old copper lines. Fiberoptic is much more reliable and doesn’t need a massive workforce to maintain.
Use the Bully Pulpit to shame them. Might work, or it might not. But it will impact their business, the bottom line, and eventually their share price.

To splice a 1200 pair pulp cable, you need someone at the central office (CO) on each end, and then two guys at the splice. The ones at the CO has to tone each pair block in order to splice them. A pulp cable uses a plain paper sheath on each individual wire so they’re not color coded like newer PIC cables are. It can take 48 or more hours to splice a 1200pr pulp.
By comparison, to splice fiber you need one or two techs and just a few hours.
I guess it begs the question of the competency of the targeted in their current positions.....w/o more data, all we can do is surmise and decide what it means by what we would hate the most - we're good at that....
That is so true, and we need to inject that into discussion ad nauseum - make it as common as “global warming” conversation. Cattle cars, death camps, and gulags don’t work in this day of mass information technology; they’ll just financially cripple the American middle class, driving down birthrates while driving up chemical dependency. The middle class will disappear, and they won’t even know it was engineered by enemies of this country and God Himself.
The fact that it was reported in the news a few years ago that there were more white people dying every day than being born, and there was no follow-up discussion, spoke volumes.
That has now spread to the financial sector, and was one of the original gripes of Occupy Wall Street. Those laid-off workers demonstrated in front of building where they previously worked, while Asian workers filed past them into their former cubicles.

It’s very clear this is exactly what is being done, via immigration, opioids, education, regulations and social policies.

It has gone on (successfully) for years; NJ is unrecognizable compared to the state where I grew up a few decades ago. It is really coming to a head as American taxpayers here pay a steep price for the public education of primarily foreign students; we were one of the state with one of the highest rates of languages other than English spoken at home (slightly more than 30%). As a result, the taxpayers and their employers flee those costs, and the death spiral quickens.
