International Falls, Minnesota Drops To Record Low -36F
Fox News ^ | 12-27-2017

Posted on 12/27/2017 5:24:04 PM PST by blam

International Falls, Minnesota woke up to a temperature of -36F at 6 a.m. Wednesday morning breaking the previous record low for Dec. 27 of -32F set in 1924, according to the National Weather Service office in Duluth. That -36 is the actual temperature, not a wind chill!

According to state records, the -36 morning in International Falls is only about halfway to the state record low temperature of -60 in Tower, Minnesota on Feb. 2, 1996. The all-time record low for International Falls is -55F, set in January 1909.

Wednesday morning, low temperatures in the Twin Cities metro ranged from -7 in St. Paul to -13 in nearby Lake Elmo. Minnesota is stuck in a deep freeze with single-digital highs and subzero lows hanging around into next week. Check the updated 7-day forecast at fox9.com/weather and download the Fox 9 Weather App to track temperatures and snow in your specific location.

Here’s a look at Wednesday morning temperate around Minnesota, as recorded by the National Weather Service at 6 a.m.

Why, everyone knows there’s a difference between the weather and climate...........weather is what actually happens, and climate is what’s predicted by computer models.

-40 is when both scales are saying it is seriously cold. However as a fan of the Kelvin scale that temp is 233 degrees and it doesn’t sound so bad. :)

-40 is when both scales are saying it is seriously cold.

I arrived in the town at about 6PM and it was about -20F at the time. The first thing I did was fill up with locally blended diesel...which is essential to ensure that the fuel doesn't "gel",which means no start. The first station I went to had their diesel pumps frozen.I went down the street and made the mistake of handling the metal nozzle without gloves. My hand hurt like hell for hours afterward.

Overheard conversation about two weeks ago at a transportation hub:

Man: Where are you headed?

Woman: Home to Georgia. How about you?

Man: I am going to St. Augustine, Florida.

Woman: You live in the hot weather.

Man: Not yesterday. The temperature was in the 30s when I left my house.

Woman: You can blame global warming for that.

Imagine if he said it was in the 90s. :-)

Yes, I remember most of my life the weatherman saying the coldest spot in the nation is International Falls, MN. It is winter time.

It was -10 this morning and I managed a 6.5 mile hike to test my cold weather gear. My choppers were deemed defective.
