Actress Jessica Chastain responded on social media this week after critics slammed her for appearing on the cover of LA Times Magazine alongside a half-dozen other white actresses for a story about womens equality in Hollywood. Chastain, the 40-year-old star of the drama and upcoming awards-season hopeful Mollys Game, covered the magazines pre-Chritsmas issue alongside fellow actresses Kate Winslet (Wonder Wheel), Diane Kruger (In the Fade), Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird), Margot Robbie (I, Tonya), and Annette Bening (Film Stars Dont Die in Liverpool).
Critics immediately noticed the lack of any actresses of color on the magazine cover, including author Rebecca Carroll, who tweeted directly at Chastain.
Honestly @jes_chastain as an outspoken voice for equality how do you pose for a photo like this and not feel absolutely mortified by the blatant exclusion? Carroll wrote in a tweet. How is it possible to not understand the msg this photo sends?
The actress responded by calling the photo a sad look, though the contact between the women on the cover suggests that they were in the same room when it was being shot.
Its a sad look that theres no WOC in this pic of us promoting our female lead films, Chastain replied. The industry needs to become more inclusive in its storytelling.

Omg, how could I forget Islamic suicide belt wearing women??
White people are awesome.
Chastain lost all credibility when she said you have to wait 6 months for an X-Ray in the US.
That phrase was brought up as being “inappropriate” at a Sexual Harassment briefing at Ft. Bragg. By military as “something an officer might say that is inappropriate.
Lazybones.
I have to concur with you on this, goodman.
I noticed today there was a new network on my cable guide. It is BET HER. My husband said it must be the black Lifetime channel. Only non-whites can be racially or sexual orientation exclusive.
I truly feel for any of you folks still having to endure that sort of Orwellian bullshit.
I’m a civilian employee, but former military.
it shocked me that a MILITARY member would get all bent out of shape by a comment like that.
The problem with hen house disputes is that blame is fired in various directions without discrimination. Duck!
We're being devoured by an Outrage© pandemic.
It’s not the same military I served in either.
Even at a base like Ft Bragg which has a high percentage of actual combat troops.
I just got back from a dear friend’s house this afternoon. While watching tv, he was saying “MF, where are the normal, WHITE Americans anymore?” as the commercials played. I’ve known him and his immediate and some extended family for over 20 years, and many of his family feel the same way. They’re black. I’m white. They are pissed off watching what is happening.
I talk to my friend every day, and he is an unapologetic American and Trump supporter, but I’m watching/hearing his more extended family getting even more disgusted.
A person is either American or he/she isn’t. This is diversity/division overload.
Yup.
I'm back to subscribing to Scientific American magazine and in the latest edition there is a real glossy other thin magazine attached. It says Next Frontiers and then a headline that says Champions Of Science and shows the face of a young Black female in a sort of 'space' helmet. The picture is the only thing on the page and it takes up 2/3's of the front page.
When I saw that I did a double take.....Black women are leaders in space science? Or, science of any type? Only a Muslim would have been a more off target example for the subject picture.
.
You are being conditioned!
Believe as the magazine requires and you will be safe!

One of my friend’s daughters is smart enough she could’ve probably done that, but became a real estate agent instead. She laughs at the stupid commercials, PC crap, etc, too.
But on this topic, look up the cover “model” for Allure magazine from July 2017, “Meet Halima.” I’ve been trying to post an image but can’t seem to do so. It’s a Muslim woman with the caption “This Is American BEAUTY.” This is hands-down the WORST magazine cover ever, not because she isn’t pretty, but because of the message/attitude.
That’s the one. Makes my blood boil.
Nothing AMERICAN about that.
