The other day at Dig Inn, a just-opened lunch spot on Broadway and 38th Street in Midtown Manhattan, Shania Bryant committed a customer faux pas. She placed her order for chicken and brown rice and yams, and when she got to the register, she held out a $50 bill.

“Sorry,” the cashier told her. “We don’t take cash.” Not, “We don’t take $50s.” No cash. Period.

Around here, gas stations say “same, cash or credit.” Doesn’t matter how you pay, cost is the same.

They can walk out WITHOUT their food/purchase. How many places hand you your purchase BEFORE paying for it?

Why is this so hard?

Again, how many merchants give you your purchase before payment?

You have a choice. Pay the way they want you to or go elsewhere.

Yes they have a choice as do you (the consumer).

I really don’t understand why this is so difficult for people to understand.

And an EMP event causes all your bitcoins to vanish into nothingness.

A world wide EMP?

At that point any currency other than ammo will be useless.

You read the reason right there. It’s good for all DEBTS. Until you’re in possession of a good or service you don’t owe a DEBT for it and the medium of consideration is still open to negotiation.

Sweet mo g, is this the freakin aneurism thread??? Pull a damn Federal Reserve Note out of your pocket and read it!

It says

THIS NOTE IS LEGAL TENDER FOR ALL DEBTS PUBLIC AND PRIVATE.

If the restaurant proprietors are dumb enough to let you eat first and then say they don’t accept cash they’re SOL, but if you have to pay ahead of time to get the service they can specify unicorn piss as the exchange medium if they so desired.

?? So you are in agreement that the restaurant can refuse cash if they notify customers in advance?
