Senate Democrats are hammering congressional Republicans as both parties look to claim momentum heading into 2018, saying the past year has been a "complete failure" for Republicans.
Democrats on the Joint Economic Committee led by Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) are releasing a report detailing Republicans's "worst" of their first year under a unified GOP government.
"This year was marked by complete failure by Republicans in Congress to help the working Americans who need it the most. Instead, Republicans and the Trump administration have made partisan moves to endanger the economic security of families across this country," Heinrich said.
He added that Democrats "stand ready to work with Republicans" during the rest of the current session of Congress, which runs through 2018.
The report, which was obtained in advance of its release by The Hill, details how Democrats believe Republican are doing "real damage" across a myriad of areas.
"In his first year in office, President Trump and Congressional Republicans hurt workers pay and benefits, rolled back consumer financial protections, targeted public lands for commercial development, and attempted to strip health care coverage from millions of Americans," the report states.
It also touches on the GOP tax plan that was sent to the White House on Wednesday and the repeated Republican attempts to repeal and replace ObamaCare. It argues that in keeping the government operating, Republicans "have lurched from one continuing resolution to the next," referring to the government jargon for a stopgap spending measure.
"Republicans enter 2018 with one fewer senator on their side of the aisle and having just passed a tax package that is hugely unpopular with the American people. A mid-course correction would seem prudent, but all indicators suggest that Republicans are prepared to double down," the report says.
Republicans are defending eight seats in 2018, compared to 25 for Democrats 10 of which are in states won by President Trump in the 2016 presidential election.
Democrats have been increasingly bullish about their chances next year, especially after last week's upset win in an Alabama Senate race.
They would need to gain two seats to win back the Senate majority.
Very interesting point. Well founded.
For the most part, they are right. The GOP controlled congress failed in so many ways simply because they held the same ideals as liberal Democrats. The wouldnt repeal 0bamacare, the wouldnt fund the border wall and they supported amnesty. That is failure.
Barely passing the tax cut bill isnt going to save them in 2018. Trumps voters are still pissed off at congress. If the tax bill stimulates economic growth beyond anyones wildest imagination, then maybe those mush middle swing voters that oppose the bill right now might come back and vote for them.
I hope that Trump and Repubs “fail” even more spectacularly in 2018 !
MAGA !
The GOP put up a 3 pointer from half court to save their dismal record this year, with this tax revise. They’re still going at 1 mph on judges, and got lost in the tall grass on repeal of OCare.
So the Dems are sort of right. It’s been a rough year for the Stupid Party.
They’re very sick and twisted, of course. What to them is “success” is disaster (20+ years to recover from the Great Depression, 8 years of Zero’s economic stagnation and $20 trillion in debt) and what to them is “failure” is complete success for the straights (Trump’s booming economy, tax cuts).
I want some of what they’re smoking
Right off the bat, President Trump appointed a new USSC Justice. How many did the demonrats appoint?
Makes them stupid, ignorant babblers spewing nonsensical gibberish to be consumed by fools.
Try instead to get a hold of what your President consumes, and order a barrel of it.
:-)
Sadly, 95% true. Senate, House - they underachieved.

Re: federal judges {NY Slimes}: Trump Is Rapidly Reshaping the Judiciary. Heres How.
"Mr. Trump has already appointed eight appellate judges, the most this early in a presidency since Richard M. Nixon, and on Thursday, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted along party lines to send a ninth appellate nominee Mr. Trumps deputy White House counsel, Gregory Katsas to the floor."

well, the mandate has just been gutted, and barkiecare is in its predicted death spiral.
The move to cult behaviour was joked about by Bob Hope in that now famous film clip “The Ghost Breakers”.
I think the modern iteration began with Clinton. He was the son of the South the Democrats HOPED Carter would be, and after the disastrous 1977-1981 Democrat administration led to 12 years of Republicans in the White House, the party was going to go full throttle for their deeply flawed leader.
Clinton’s perjury and perversity were excused. The credible claims of rape were ignored. The embrace of cult of personality took hold, and followed Al Gore, Kerry (to a lesser degree), Hussein Obama, and HRC.
DEMOCRATS are indeed cultist.
The GOPe still has no idea how pissed off Trump voters are going to remain!
“Heinrich”, eh?
We get the program.
The President has appointed 19 judges so far.
