Asahi: N. Korean Official in Charge of Nuclear Facilities Purged

Write : 2017-12-19 10:03:57 Update : 2017-12-19 10:39:51

A Japanese daily says that an official in charge of construction of North Korean nuclear facilities is believed to have been purged.

Quoting a North Korean defector, Japan's Asahi Shimbun reported on Tuesday that the chief of Bureau 131 of the North's ruling Workers' Party might even have been executed.

The paper said that the bureau chief was recently removed from the post and purged for allegedly leaking military secrets.

Bureau 131 is known to be responsible for building the North's key military facilities including portals for the Punggye-ri nuclear test site and facilities for the Dongchang-ri missile launch site.

The report said that the official might have been purged for a delay in the North's sixth nuclear test and collapse of underground tunnels at the Punggye-ri nuclear site.

A source said that the official was probably purged after the nuclear test scheduled for spring was delayed to September.

Relying on defectors can be tricky.

I wonder what the method of execution was? Probably something creative. Any ideas?

But then nobody can provide insight into what goes on inside.
What so-called ‘objective’ professionals have done is atrocious. Defectors are not always right, but filtered properly, they would be sources of great information.

They had exchange programs with Russia and China until recently in which N. Korean specialists learn about nuclear technology and other stuffs, ostensibly not related to anything military.

There could be occasional technical consulting from these countries, too.

The bureau chief was recently removed from the post and purged

But then it says....

‘believed’.....to have been purged.
‘might’........have been purged
‘probably’.....purged
‘might’ even have been executed.

Sounds like our media! They really don’t know...

When Soviet Union fell their nuclear scientists etc. needed a job so N.Korea took some of the on....I suspect they taught them but also knew the underground and peoples to stay connected with them since that time....

Also Iran’s in bed with N.Korea.

Being a defector to the NORKs can be tricky - was stationed in Korea when PFC White’s body was recovered after a “swimming accident” - when the streets downtown were a foot deep in solid ice.....

Yes, Asahi said it was him. This is not definitely confirmed, though.

Something different:
It seems that the Russians assisted with the kidnappings as they were transported via the Russian border https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Korea%E2%80%93Russia_border
