Like the Russians or any one else for that matter would waste assets on the Green party. Not everyone is as clueless as a Jeff Sessions
Gorbachev has been heavily involved in the Green Party for a long time.

The “Green Party” was full of assorted reds so it would always be in Moscow’s interest to know who they are, what they are up to (that might need some covert help), and are they a threat to Putin’s interests.
