This was the 1st day Amtrak’s high speed train on a very old Freight train track. This is just south of Ft Lewis near Dupont.
3 dead now according to reports. Pretty high profile place for a derailment. Makes me think goat humpers might be involved.

Likely it’s last day too.
Just looked at it on google maps. Those two curves where the track crosses I-5 look way too sharp for fast rail service. Also, the ballast and grade look like they’ve been worked on recently.
But yeah, it looks like an old subdivision that’s been re-utilized.
Who owns this train line, BNSF or CP?
I assumed high speed rail had a high speed RAIL. Isnt the rail the main part of a railroad? Putting a fast train on an old rail just sounds dumb.
