The NTSB could’ve handled that with a written statement.

Right, but it proves that there are lunatic leftards in the local region who are willing and able to sabotage railway tracks.

I wonder if the graffiti on the bridge has anything to do with the incident.

That graffiti is very old, at least 10 yrs. I drive by there several times per week.

Looks like the lead car went for a pretty wild ride.

"The train was going 81.1 mph moments before the derailment, according to transitdocs.com, a website that maps Amtrak train locations and speeds using data from the railroad's train tracker app."
Those speeds are only updated to the web on ~4 minute interval.
Looking at the TV coverage, the track has been recently upgraded compared to satellite pics from map websites. I note that the track is aligned so the curve continues across the bridge (The bridge was originally setup with 2 tracks/). With appropriate banking both could allow significant speed. It also looks like the Loco down on I-5 is a power unit.

“People in those cars become projectiles as the cars go from speed to stop in short order.”
People yes and everything else in the car. Prayers for all involved.

A fun fact about rail:
The tracks are owned by the rail company. Trucks operate on publicly funded roads.
Two modes of competing (and complimentary) transportation, except one is heavily subsidized.
The issue with rail is the burden of securing all of that track falls to a few public companies, for the most part.
