Speaking to USA TODAY, Johnson, 45, fleshed out some of the still-murky details, acknowledging there's still a lot to be worked out.
But Johnson says he would eye the 2020 presidential election. "That would probably be the case, yes," he says.
But "this actually never came from me," the actor points out. "It started (with) a piece in The Washington Post, and there was this kind of groundswell."
It didn't hurt that the report made clear in the headline that Johnson "could actually win." People got excited about the prospect. And that has pushed Johnson.

They think because President Trump was a celebrity, THAT is what wins elections.
Why it certainly does help to have someone well known in the public eye. Nevertheless, President Trump was a successful businessman in New York. He was not an “Actor”. Haha!
Long before Politics President Trump did testify in front of congress back in the 1980s about our economy. We don’t see “The Rock”. He is simply an actor. Sort of like a prostitute.
I HIGHLY DOUBT the Rock understands 1 1,0000,000 of what President Trump gets. I like the guy, but disappointed he would try to run in 2020. I do know he could not stand Hillary and made fun of her.
I know Dwayne played for the 1991 Miami Hurricanes in football when they won the National Championship. I think he played briefly in the NFL too. That’s probably why they want this guy.
Anyway, Johnson graduated from the University of Miami in 1995 with a Bachelor of General Studies degree in criminology and physiology. That’s good if you want to be a police officer or possibly go to law school afterwards. I knew quite a few Criminal Justice majors that went to law school and became lawyers. He did not do either.
Maybe they are setting him for a real run in 2024? or they trying to divide the minority vote for President Trump? The Democrats know they can’t run a Joe Biden or Elizabeth Warren. They would lose against President Trump.
I like the Rock But he will serve the people every bid as much as Awnold served Kalifornia!!!

I remember Trump testifying, and even then he was making an issue about the Federal deficit and debt. Back then the Trump Tower had a debt clock on the ground floor showing the increasing debt.
