Much worse. Before al Qaeda came along, Hezbollah was responsible for the murders of more Americans than any other terror group. And Iranian IEDs have been maiming and killing our service personnel in Iraq for years.

Yes, I remember. It was just after the Congress passed the 2nd Boland Amendment.

Iran Contra was a big nothing. Even if Reagan KNEW about arms dealing, which I doubt, Iran was fighting IRAQ at the time. Ortega was and is a murderous Commie.
Maobama couldn’t care less about human trafficking. He supports Islam, IS an Islamist, hates Christians and Jews, and loves Hamas.
Politico justified its existence, finally.

“Iran Contra” was actually a brilliant plan by anti-communist and anti-Ayatollah/Saddam Hussein loyal Americans to get around the leftist/Democrats laws to prevent the US from aiding the anti-Sandinista fighters in Nicaragua.

Despite the foolish approaches used by the State Dept. (a so-called Bible in a cake or whatever, the plan had several objectives.

1. Raise money for the freedom fighters in Nicaragua, by
2. Selling aircraft parts and some limited weapons to Iran to keep their US made F4’s flying against Iraq re in the air and on the ground, inflicting enough casualties and damage so as to make sure that Iraq didn’t win and takeover Iran.
3. To provide just enough aid to Iran to force a stalemate with Iraq, not a victory over it, while bleeding both countries military with high casualties and damage to economic facilities.
4. Allow Israel, the F4 parts supplier, to keep some contacts with Israeli-trained Iranian pilots with the hopes that they might be leaders of a coup against the Ayatollah. They were eventually killed in action or by the Ayatollah’s secret police. A few reportedly escaped to the West.

The Freedom Fighters in Nicaragua did get enough money to buy badly needed weapons to fight the Marxist Sandinistas, and eventually bled them to a draw which brought about free elections which put the Ortega Brothers out of office for a while.

People forget, due t leftist propaganda in the NY Times, the Wash. Post, Jack Anderson, etc. that the freedom fighters in Nicaragua were mainly peasants/farmers, not what was left of Somoza’s National Guard (some of the resistance leaders were from the NG but they were a minority and some were forced out of the movement).

I met several of these resistance fighters (farmers, cattle dealers, Lutherans from Bluefields, and a large faction of the Miskito (and other Indian tribes).

I’m wiling to bet that you won’t find much on them in the MSM if you research their resistance movement in the 1980’s.

“Iran-Contra” was a leftist Democrat Party/congressional operation to keep the communists in power in Nicaragua. See “S. Steven Powell’s “Covert Cadre: Inside the Institute for Policy Studies, which has some information on what hardcore communist sympathizers in the Senate - Kennedy, Harkin, Dodd and even Kerry - did to help the reds.

Leftist Democrats in the House, esp. Boland (D-Mass), carried on a similar support the Sandinistas and keep them in power effort too.

There was a similar effort to aid the communists, the FLMN, in El Salvador, which was a combined effort of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA) and the Communist Party of El Salvador led by the Handal brothers. I knew the CPUSA liaison, Maurice Jackson - head of the CP of VA/DC, now a professor of Black/African Studies at Georgetown Un - who worked with creating CISPES (Committee in Support of the People of El Salvador), the FLMN’s front.

You didn’t read any of this in the Wash. Post and even the congressional hearing about “The FBI and CISPES” refused to put in much information about the role that the American communists played in assisting the Marxist guerrillas in El Salvador. That was by design by the same communists/sympathizers of the Democrat Party in Congress who also supported the Sandinistas in Nicaragua.

I was a journalist covering a lot of this during the late 70’s and 80’s, so I had direct contact with many of the anti-communist leaders in Nicaragua, as well as internal security investigators here in the U.S.

You’ve never been told the truth about the Democrats treason. “Iran-Contragate” was their coverup hearings for their own support for the reds in Central America.

“Anybody remember Iran Contra?”

You mean when we got one of our friends to trick our enemies into helping another of our friends?

Of course, those in congress who voted against funding the Contras were furious, because they wanted the murdering commie rat Ortega to win.

And nothing the least bit illegal about anything the White House did, despite the spittle-spraying ranting of the lying fake-news media.
