North Korea: US naval blockade would be 'act of war'
As the rogue regime lashes out again, the Chinese and Russian Presidents warn of catastrophe if there is a military strike.
North Korea has warned the US would take a "dangerous and big step" towards nuclear war if it enforces a naval blockade.
It said it would take "merciless self-defensive" measures.
North Korea state media said the Trump administration was "pursuing a policy of military confrontation but this is nothing but a death-bed struggle by those alarmed by the might of the DPRK always emerging victorious".
"Should the United States and its followers try to enforce the naval blockade against our country, we will see it as an act of war and respond with merciless self-defensive counter-measures as we have warned repeatedly," said KCNA, citing a foreign ministry spokesman.
Although a blockade to enforce trade sanctions is not believed to be imminent, after North Korea's November rocket test US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said it was a possibility.
White House National Security adviser HR McMaster said in September however, that even 'non-strike' options carried the risk of military escalation.

My guess is, that the Chinese have so many of their agents embedded in the Nork government that they would stop anything before it went too far.
N. Koreans probably know their chance of survival is really slim. Especially lower-ranking soldiers who do not have access to well-fortified bunkers deep underground or maze of escape tunnels for safe getaway.
China better reel in the little noodle
slinger before he starts killing others...
I tend to agree with you, but I don’t think he would be able to accomplish much before all hell broke loose on his sorry ass. He may get one nuke off killing many, but he would never be able to do so again after the response.
So we can start a war and make it look like they started it. Our first response must be overwhelming, wholly debilitating, apocalyptic and absolute. And then repeated.
Agreed and no NORK plane would last more than a few minutes in the air. Their Navy wouldn’t fare much better. Their soldiers won’t fight (except for the brainwashed ones and they would be slaughtered). I don’t see it lasting long at all. If the NORKs launch one nuke, one Ohio class sub completely destroys their country in under 15 minutes.
Japanese immigrants to the Philippines increased prior to WW2. Fisherman who knew their way around the islands. Carlos Romulo, famous diplomat didn’t know his gardener was an army major and his masseuse a colonel.
Good question.
Perhaps I missed it; has North Korea done anything past the ceasefire they signed more than 50 years ago? Because, you know, that pesky state of war existing and stuff, not sure it would really much matter if there were a ring of ships and an embargo going on - if they shot at the ships, they’d be breaking the same ceasefire agreement they’ve broken 97 times.
As is shooting missiles into other country’s waters or over their territory.
The Nork Navy is about to be short a few admirals. Fat boi will be sending them down range to catch some air defense rounds soon.
Nuke all the major cities, islandsb mountain villages, small towns....
They were conventional operations whose effect were limited to local theater, psychologically terrorizing S. Korea and making their regime look good by showing that N. Korea can stand up to U.S..
Now N. Korea is close to(or already has) long-range nuclear missiles and a high-yield nuclear bomb(probably a hydrogen bomb. This puts the whole thing in an entirely different perspective.
They are crossing the absolute red line and think that they can still get their way by resorting to their old well-honed script of threats accompanied by diplomatic maneurvers.
It is one thing to be shot at with a bullet from a handgun once in a while which you can duck and dodge (and may shoot hack a bullet or two), but entirely another thing to be aimed at by anti-tank missiles.
Yes, it would. I think we know that.
Things might be better if someone had killed grandpa a long time back.
What IF NK doesn’t care about getting nuked? What if China would like to see us knocked down a notch or two and wants NK to hit us is some way. China promises Kim a secret spot in China for him and a small top group to live/hide ? NK hits us nuclear, it doesn’t wipe us out, just slows us down for a long time. China get super power status, takes over Taiwan as they have wanted to for decades, becomes a top power in the Pacific as they have wanted, even makes money helping us to rebuild. Russia gets in on it. At that point for us who cares if NK is turned into glass ?
That is a big "IF." Their mindset is used to getting their way by making big threats. We have been taking it seriously, but they really haven't, because their past track record is favorable to them.
Kim Jong-un knows that his exile in China is anything but comfortable. He would be a nuisance China has to tolerate for a while but after a while, China would find no use for him. At which point, his life is not even guaranteed.
China does want both N. Korea and U.S. to bleed, trying to weaken U.S. in the process. If China does that by helping N. Korea behind a scene, their long-term prospect would not be looking up because they have to face more draconian U.S. economic sanctions and nuclear armed E. Asia. They may still believe that things would not come to that.
