Um there are thousands upon thousands of qualified Americans to do IT in the USA. The H-1b visa scam is a Cheap Labor Express wage suppression scheme.

Why does TRUMP want only the most skilled, highly paid workers to get visas? If what you say is true, then TRUMP should say "We don't need the program at all. We have more than enough highly skilled American workers to fill the high tech jobs availble."

The Millennials, those ages 18-34, have great skill with social media tech, but not much skill with tech that businesses can use.

Listen, the young aren't stupid. They know about H-1b and how it suppresses wages so they don't study STEM. Remove the artificial wage suppression caused by H-1B then wages will go up and the major choice as undergrad will change back to STEM. It is called supply and demand. Works every time.

You can be a globalist or a patriot but not both.

Trump has not come out to remove the H-1b. What is he?

He is working towards it. This is his second shot at trimming H-1B. He inherited this BS of a scam. You are obviously a globalist. OTH I am patriot so our ability to communicate with each other is limited. We really have nothing to say to each other as our philosophies differ so much.

What kind of a patriot agrees with young people, that it’s not a good idea to go after STEM education, because there may be obstacles to overcome. It’s the globalist who are pushing the SJW education the young are receiving in colleges, and you seem to be siding with them.

It is called supply and demand. People are not stupid. Did you major in STEM in college? I did. I know what I am talking about.

Yeah there is a high demand for SJW riots in the cities, so for that the young are well prepared.

What is your anecdotal experience in debating the H-1B issue as far as those going against POTUS on this? While this doesn’t preclude them from having an opinion, I typically see non-techies taking the Expand, Expand, Expand position regarding H-1B.

Society as a whole tends to be a bit jealous about IT salaries, so the cheap labor aspect of this is totally overlooked. I sense a general “stick it to them” from those in other corporate functions who are sick of a “Tech Lead” making the same salary a “Director” makes in non-technical functions.

Most people would not be willing to work as hard as IT people. They have no clue.

"Try finding decent housing on one H1B salary in silicon valley or in SanFrancisco

Maybe the supply and demand solution here is for corporations to move out of Silicon Valley....

As I've said here on FR before - the H1B program is ultimately about subsidizing and pumping up real estate values in Blue State S#itholes. Stuffing bodies into buildings to create tax revenue.

Exactly!

Once every American who wants a job has a job, then we have reason to bring in a few immigrants who want to work.

It is NOT moral to the life of an American or an immigrant to condemn them to wasting their creative years collecting a government check

I have a retired friend in Mountain View that could move, sell his house and be wealthy but just can’t leave the center of the universe

Good! Maybe every extended family member won’t want to come here and take jobs from Americans.

"but just can’t leave the center of the universe"

LOL!

I've worked with plenty of silicon valley folks. Their opinion of themselves knows no limit - but the quality of a great deal of their output leaves much to be desired.

No. The way this used to work was that the H1B holder could bring his wife and children on an H4 visa. The H4 visa allowed them to live in the U.S. so long as the husband’s H1B was valid. But they were not allowed to work.

Obama arbitrarily changed this with a “stroke of the pen” move three years ago (a la DACA). Trump is just reverting to the law as it was actually written by Congress.

Granted this sucks if you are that wife on H4. You are no doubt feeling jerked around and unsure exactly how you can comply with ever-changing law.

__________________________________________________________________I don’t even know if this is the program for skilled and tech jobs, but if corporations would stop requiring employees train foreigners, then fire the Americans, they wouldn’t flock here like sand fleas and flies. There are Americans losing jobs to cheaper labor, and that’s just wrong. If there’s a genuine need, that’s different, but when you have to fire an American to make an opening for a foreigner, NO! If I were such an employee, I would rather take a small pay cut than lose my job. (Though it’s usually NOT about a business going under if they can’t get cheaper labor). I understand corporations are all about making money, but they need to show a little patriotism. It’s not as if they’re going to lower the price of their product with the money they save by hiring foreigners. It’s not as if they’re going to give the bigwigs a smaller bonus. And if someone wants to jab me and tell me how corporations are in the business to make money, and more power to them, I say, no, they have responsibilities as Americans to do what’s right. There’s more to life than getting rich by sticking it to your own countrymen. Everyone’s so damned GREEDY!
