Paul Ryan is considering retiring after 2018 mid-term elections

House Speaker Paul Ryan plans to retire after the 2018 midterm elections, Politico reported on Thursday.

From Politico: Ryan was tiring of D.C. even before reluctantly accepting the speakership. He told his predecessor, John Boehner, that it would be his last job in politics—and that it wasn't a long-term proposition. In the months following Trump's victory, he began contemplating the scenarios of his departure. More recently, over closely held conversations with his kitchen cabinet, Ryan's preference has become clear: He would like to serve through Election Day 2018 and retire ahead of the next Congress. This would give Ryan a final legislative year to chase his second white whale, entitlement reform, while using his unrivaled fundraising prowess to help protect the House majority—all with the benefit of averting an ugly internecine power struggle during election season. Ryan has never loved the job; he oozes aggravation when discussing intra-party debates over "micro-tactics," and friends say he feels like he's running a daycare center. On a personal level, going home at the end of next year would allow Ryan, who turns 48 next month, to keep promises to family; his three children are in or entering their teenage years, and Ryan, whose father died at 55, wants desperately to live at home with them full-time before they begin flying the nest. The best part of this scenario, people close to the speaker emphasize: He wouldn't have to share the ballot with Trump again in 2020.

Ryan’s wife is the grand daughter of one of the most Conservative democrats in Oklahoma in the twentieth century. Reuel Little (if my memory is correct) supported Barry Goldwater over Lyndon Johnson in 1964.

Thats because he knows the GOP is going to lose control of the House.

If by some miracle they hold on, Ryan will stay.

I’m hoping he gets retired during the 2018 elections.

How many congress members are retiring, quitting, leaving, gone... for many other reasons?

I know the list is freakishly long compared to a typical year (10 or 12).

Anyone have a list? Last time I checked it what is about 80 people total.

They are dropping like flies, and quietly President Trump is draining the Swamp.

My first response- good riddance

My second response - not surprising you bail given that you have concluded that the Communist Party will wax your behinds in 2018 election

My third response - then now is the time to drop all the ordnance and actually enact everything you and your pansy cohort promised us you would do, regardless of the electoral cost. If you are going to get pasted, at least go down with a bang, not a whimper.

It is worth positing that the Commies probably understood that ObamaCare would lead to a short-term electoral slaughter (soon to be overcome IMHO with them taking both the House and Senate in ‘18), but they figured it was worth it to achieve the fundamental subjugation of the populace. Just my two cents.

“The GOP governs only enough to win elections, which is their ultimate goal. The Commies win elections in order to govern ruthlessly, which is their ultimate goal.”

Rumours is he’ll start up a Cuckold’s Rights movements.

For him, cucks are not abominations, but natural and should be societal leaders

Speaker Paul D. Ryan announced Tuesday after Speier’s and Rep. Barbara Comstock’s testimony of incidents of sexual harassment that House members and their staffs will now be required to take mandatory anti-harassment and anti-discrimination training.

Ryan is getting ready to go maverick, IMO. Amnesty, “entitlement reform”, raising taxes on veterans, etc. Not running again simplifies his calculations.

He wouldn’t have to worry about money. His wealthy, liberal Democrat wife can easily support him.

POTUS has destroyed an entire generation of phony K Street Republicans.

'Tis one of the many reasons why I like him.

Many FReepers, me included, would love to see BO, Hill&Bill, etc behind bars. IMO, that'll never happen, but what will happen is that they'll throw a myriad of 2nd stringers under the bus to save their own necks. They'll be left untouched, but impotent and isolated.

This, coupled with the ongoing housecleaning of RINOs, will put the country in a more recoverable position.

Good for him. Retire from government while he is healthy and do something else. Quite a contrast with the likes of John McCain who refuses to leave even with brain cancer and may have to be wheeled in for votes.

Very amusing.

Won’t happen, but if Ryan ever did become President, I would start looking at real estate in Central or Eastern Europe.

So he is running and then resigning? Or not running?

His plan is to spend 2018 helping with the impeachment of Trump and the handover of Congress to Dems/RINOs and then "retire" so he can begin working on his 2020 presidential election bid.

He's had a taste for real power being speaker, and he wants more... he wants it all.
