Just got back (with my 18-year-old daughter) from the Christkindlmarkt in downtown Stuttgart (in the Königstraße).

Coming from the Hauptbahnhof, I had noticed two police persons (one male, one female) in full battle regalia (looked like bullet-proof vests) stationed at the entrance.

Then two more pacing back and forth across a side street.

Then, near the end, another pair of officers.

I approached one and asked, in a friendly manner, "Is something 'going down' today? A demonstration or something?"

They answered, nonchalantly, "No, it's just because of the terror threat [meaning not a specific, concrete threat, but rather the general threat]."

Life in modern Germany! Of course, we Freepers understand that this was purely for the optics - they couldn't have done a thing against an Islamo-bomber or even a crazed truckdriver!

I might point out that there were none of these "pillars" or "pollars" - or whatever you call them - in place, to stop motor vehicles on a rampage. (Sometimes they are disguised in gift wrapping!)

Seems too many people spray-paint "Thanks, Merkel!" on them.

Regards,

A German friend informed me in no uncertain terms the immigrants were kind hearted well educated folk willing to work hard and would never change Germany. That was 2-3 years ago. Odd, he doesn’t talk to me much anymore.
