This all started with McConnell meddling from the very beginning to support Luther Strange.

Before that it was Ivy calling for a special election. Is this required by Alabama law?

Just read..."Code of Alabama, Section 36-9-8, says that if a vacancy occurs in a Senate seat more than four months before a general election, the governor is to call a special election "forthwith."

Of course also just read Alabama legislature was looking to change(before yesterdays election of course)this, as Alabama is one of only 14 states that still requires this process. Guess other states have determined special elections tend to put big $$$ strains on state budgets(not to mention the political fallout).

The governor could have scheduled the special election for November 2018, but ho later. One can’t serve more than two years of an appointed Senate term. Having it in 2017 was her call.
