The depression in GOP vote in Alabama will only fuel their fire and let them know they are on target. They can count on 2018 to be a disaster so that they can gladly hand over the congress. At the least, they can say “see, we told you to nominate Jeb.” As a bonus, they get Trump impeached.
The Rove/McCain wing of the party won’t let it go. Their technique is well known. They tell you your guy can’t win and to prove it they go about making sure your guy doesn’t. Was Moore a flawed candidate? Sure, but what candidate isn’t? How many seated in congress today make Roy Moore look like a Boy Scout? It is a question of who digs out the dirt and who defends them. If from the get go Mitch had defended Moore, Moore is elected today. If Luther Strange had won and the WaPo flung this stuff against him (which will be the playbook against every GOP candidate btw), you bet Mitch would have defended him.
