But to suggest that I don't fear losing the House of Representatives to the Democrats, and that I am so selfish that I care nothing about the Constitution or the nation is where you are wrong House Atreides.
I care deeply, and the President and our country consume much of my prayers these days. Further, I fought for this country and went through 3 wars for it. My family paid a price for that as well. I know what it means to sacrifice for America.
I am not, nor have I ever been, a single issue candidate. I reject the notion that because I don't want to see a tax increase via a deduction destroying Tax Bill that I care nothing for the 2nd Amendment, the unborn, liberty, or justice.
Did you read the first 2 paragraphs of that article I linked to you?
The Republican tax plan gores elites, the Eastern establishment, and blue states. That hurts a lot of Democrats, but there are plenty of long-serving legacy Republicans in high-tax states who will suffer too.
Thats what drew Trump consigliere Steve Bannon to the idea of ending SALT, the acronym for State and Local Taxes deductiblity. The move is triggering a major backlash among Republicans in high-tax states. For Bannon, who wants to blow up the establishment, that seems to be reason enough to to do it.
Bannon has his fingerprints all over this awful Tax Bill that is now on the verge of emerging from reconciliation. Bannon even bragged to media outlets about his role in shaping it.
You cannot be a serious person and deny that almost 30 House Republicans from PA, NJ, NY, CA and other places are not in political jeopardy because of the impending Tax Bill.
Good House Republicans like Peter King (R-NY), Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-NJ), Darrell Issa (R-CA), Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA), Patrick Meehan (R-PA) and many, many others are in danger of losing their seats next November. Even if they voted against the Tax Bill last month, they are being targeted because the Democrats know that voters won't know or care how they voted. All they will know is that their deductions were killed and their taxes went up.
It didn't have to be this way.
