I completely disagree with you.
As we all see, there is much more abject sex abuse going on today. It is cruel to subject teens and helpless employees to the worst of assaults. Good men are not at risk. No one should be subjected to the boss masturbating or an adult overpowering a naive teen. Women and girls deserve better treatment. For every starlet subjected to a Weinstein are the single moms working at the coffee shop subjected to the perv boss with no one to believe them. Good men should care about these women. They are your daughters and mothers and wives.
And no one should falsely accuse anyone, but powerful people WILL be accused and they need to be above the fray. No Moore style equivocating. Keep your life clean so no one can come after you. Own your few improprieties and show how youve changed. If you are innocent, fight back hard.
Your observation about the low state of morals in our society is spot on.
But I have to disagree with your assertion that “good men are not at risk.”
Do you recall the McMartin or Little Rascals sex abuse cases from the 1980s, among others? People had their lives ruined over crimes that never happened.
This current wave of denunciations usually boils down to one female person’s word against that of one male person — except for the fact that the woman has hired a clever mouthpiece like Gloria Allred.
I’m not going to accept accusations without some supporting evidence. Period.
If women get hit upon by predatory males, they need to learn to say “no,” get the heck out of the way, and never give off signals that they could be available with the right inducements.
That doesn’t mean I condone any female being taken advantage of. But how hard is it to imagine a rejected or ignored female getting back at a co-worker with a false accusation?
Without independent evidence, the credibility of these accusations could be all over the map — anything from true as the Gospel to made up out of whole cloth.
I consider myself a gentleman of the old school. In dealing with women, I always ask “what part of watch your mouth and keep your hands to yourself don’t you understand?”
But in the current overheated culture, I’m not sure that would be sufficient. Thank God I’m retired.
And let's be honest. Certain transgressions simply close the door on the dream of elective office. No matter how good a person you are today, that's just the way it is.
There's a reason Ted Nugent doesn't run for Senator. He spent the 1970s doing the same thing Roy Moore was doing, except Ted wasn't asking their moms for permission.
