Sometimes he best trades are the ones that are not made. Stanton may have done the Giants/Cards a big favor.

“We had an agreement to acquire Giancarlo Stanton from the Miami Marlins, subject to him waiving his no-trade clause. We have been notified that he will not waive his no-trade clause to come to St. Louis.

While we are disappointed in his decision, we will continue to make every effort to improve our club for the upcoming season,”

“Unfortunately we were not able to convince Stanton to waive his no-trade clause and join the Cardinals. We felt this was a great landing spot for him, but it was not meant to be,”

My Cardinals probably tried to make him a low ball offer. Frankly it’s not hitting we need. It’s a bullpen.

The new owners realize it’s better to unload the cost of Stanton and get something in return while he has value. I’m glad the Cardinals didn’t mortgage the future for him

This is about Jeter threatening Stanton that they would trade everyone around him if he didn’t agree to waive his no trade clause.

The taxpayers in Dade County have been screwed to the tune of 2 billion dollars in bond obligations on the new stadium.

Stanton is STANDING UP.

Integrity.

Stanton is getting 25-26 million next year guaranteed.

A deal could have been made where the Marlins split that cost with the club that acquires him, Miami would still pay some part of it, just not the whole amount.

But the new owners have decided to threaten Stanton instead of treating him with the respect that he deserves, and now all bets are off.

Stanton pays ZERO State and local income tax on his home game earnings, DC would hit him for a couple of million a year.

Ok. The city made a really bad deal. The team also made a really bad deal for Stanton long term. The team, at least, can try to unload that contract

This is more about a team owner (Loria) with a history of shakedown schemes making a deal with Stanton that he never intended to make good on in order to take the heat off of his BRIBES to DADE COUNTY POLITICIANS to get a new stadium, and to inflate the value of the franchise.

He made a billion dollar profit on the backs of the taxpayers, and Stanton is refusing to lay down and participate in the corruption.

Respectfully disagree. The contract is back loaded most of the money comes due in the later years. It was signed with the absolute intention of trading him to the Yankees, Dodgers, or some other wealthy organization, after a few seasons. Marlins could not afford the bad PR of having their biggest star being unhappy, and the owner probably knew that he was going to sell the team in the near term. Thank you.

Still wrong. The worst scenario for the Marlins is having to keep him

According to MLB Trade Rumors, Stanton is willing to go to the Yankees, Dodgers, Astros, or Cubs, but nowhere else.
