WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democrat Al Franken will resign from the U.S. Senate on Thursday, Minnesota Public Radio reported, after more than half of his Senate Democratic colleagues urged him to do so in light of sexual misconduct accusations.

It wasn’t too long ago that some dems were touting Franken as a possible 2020 presidential candidate.
Franken *specifically* denied this report.
Said he’s still thinking about it.

I do not think Franken should resign for this.
He serves conservatives better in his seat than we are likely to get as a replacement that will be harder to beat!

Franken is repugnant - even for a Democrat. A nasty, smirking, self-important little troll of a man without a single redeeming feature inside or out.

I think Ellison would be easier to beat than Franken.

In case he does resign, does anyone know the Minnesota law on how his successor would be chosen? Wonder if there is a chance Norm Coleman could get back into contention for the seat?
The Dems are forcing the resignations of Franken and Conyers hoping to shame the Republicans into abandoning Moore before the election. But they have nothing to lose because both Franken and Conyers will be replaced by Dems.
I doubt the Dems will nominate a white male, no matter how kooky, to be their presidential nominee.
Maybe he can compromise by changing his name from Franken to Gropen; or not ...
