It has created a wave of awareness and brave confrontations over sexual harassment and assault, taking down powerful men in the process. And now the #MeToo movement has been named Time magazine's Person of the Year for 2017.
On its cover, Time called the movement "The Silence Breakers." Its story features women and men who have spoken out - including activist Tarana Burke, who started the hashtag 10 years ago.
#MeToo had its start as a social media campaign in the wake of high-profile accusations against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.

Because the most important thing in society is making statements to feel better about yourself. Doesn’t matter if the statements are true, false, or a real but innocent event years ago being hyped to qualify for the hashtag. Doesn’t matter if there is actionable data (i.e. a name). What matters is the ability to “join a movement” in 142 characters or less. It’s SOOOO much easier to be in a movement now than when Rosa Parks did it.
Some (many?) women were helped by the movement in a variety of ways. And there’s potential for the movement to continue and grow and be significant. But a this point it’s like giving Obama the peace prize for potential. And if history repeats, this movement won’t last longer or have more long-term significance than #BringBackOurGirls.
Time gets to decide which Republicans to defame with this award
Congrats.

Thanks. I think I threw out my shoulder while patting myself on the back...
An eye roll is the best I got for this
So he “metoo” hashtag was started 10 years ago? Times is a little late.
Time also named Saddam Hussein as man of the year.
Personally, I think “man” of the year is sexist.
release the hounds of #MeToo on the plains and wilderness of Twitter.
Been accused of improper behavior years after the fact and assumed guilty? #MeToo
Think it is disgusting the way people use their race or sex to embrace victimhood? #MeToo
Tired of statists who worship at the altar of government? #MeToo
The possibilities are endless.
Time, Inc. owns Sports Illustrated, the garbage periodical that gave failed pretend QB Colin Kaperpunk its version of “Snowflake of the Year” award last night. Even some cult worshiped “singer” who lip syncs her songs gave the award to him. The media swooned.
I guess since Time, Inc. disrespected Kaperpunk on their fake news rag, they had to give him something on its fake sports front.
I like the concept of the ‘something’ of the year, but Time needs to quit calling it the Person of the Year.
Several times Time has named a non-person the Person of the Year. It’s no longer a cute thing to do.
Dec.10, 2009 - Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize - they pass around awards like they redistribute wealth - using them for political and social justice -
Are those merely drawings of women? That one in the back needs to raise the neckline of her blouse before the girls fall out all over Weinstein.
Me Me Me clicked on the #MeToo! to get their names in the headlines. So far, we haven’t seen anyone get convicted of anything.
Wow, That Meme is a KEEPER!
Called it!
Btw the Person of the Year is the most influential newsmaker; it can be positive or negative and can be a group of people, an object, or an idea. Some past winners:
M.L.King
Nixon
Middle Americans (silent majority)
Khomeini
Hitler
The Computer
Stalin
The American Soldier
“You” (mirror on issue cover)
Churchill
I’m good with that. It has exposed Liberal Hollywood and the Liberal Media for the horrible hypocrites they are. Terrible people trying to shame the rest of us into living how they see fit.
DJT was still the one person in the world who had the biggest effect upon U.S. and world events and news around the world. If Time was intellectually honest (LMAO, that’s a good one!) they would have chosen DJT again.
