There are many who would disagree with you on that.

Of course there are. Some Unitarians, Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons would describe themselves as Christians, too. All these groups have a fundamentally different understanding of who Jesus Christ is, which means they are trying to redefine Christianity.

In the case of the Gnostics, they predate Christianity, and are simply trying to steal a good brand name. They are more accurately described by names like Manichaean, Rosicrucian, Albigensian, etc. depending on flavor.

There re Gnostic Christians and non-Christian Gnostics. Iv’e read some scholars who say that they are Christians.
